Philadelphia County Judge Charles Ehrlich on Monday sentenced Sykes to three to eight years in state prison, followed by seven years of probation for her March 5 rampage through the streets of North Philadelphia, attempting to outrun officers in a second stolen police car.
Sykes, 24, told Ehrlich that a lenient sentence to let her quickly reunite with her daughter would assure her rehabilitation.
“I don’t believe I’m lost to bad decisions and crime forever,” she said during her sentencing Monday at the Philadelphia Criminal Justice Center. “I don’t believe taking me away from her will be beneficial to her.”
