853. New Castle, Del. Sept. 9. Woman in her 30s critically injured [update: killed] after being struck by a white vehicle that looked like a taxi cab (but not one operated by a recognized company, operated by a man who appeared to be middle eastern, wearing a turban) which didn’t stop to help.
854. Santa Fe, NM. Sept. 8. 49-year-old man killed when struck by an unidentified vehicle which didn’t remain at the scene.
855. Pittsburgh, Pa. Sept. 7. 43-year-old woman struck and injured by a vehicle from which the driver briefly stopped but then took off. Witness said he was talking on his cell phone at the time of the collision.
856. Woburn, Mass. Sept. 8. 75-year-old woman suffers life-threatening injuries after being struck by an undescribed vehicle which fled the scene.
857. Owosso, MI. Sept. 7. 28-year-old man struck and suffers minor injuries by a white car which fled the scene.
858. Delray Beach, Fla. Sept. 8. 66-year-old man suffers broken bones and other injuries after being struck by a motorcycle which fled.
859. Columbia, Mo. Sept. 9. 11-year-old boy injured after being struck by a charcoal-colored Nissan Altima driven by a white male between 50 and 60 years old which fled the scene.

About 12 hours after a three year old boy is hit by a truck and killed – a driver comes forward – saying she may have been involved in the Dearborn County crash. Three year old Jack Carpenter dashed onto North Dearborn Road yesterday afternoon – and was run over by a pickup truck which kept going.
Local 12 reporter Jeff Hirsh says no charges have been filed, and it may be that no charges are ever filed because instead of being a hit and run crime, this may turn out to be a “hit and didn’t know it” accident.

Following two incidents last winter — the death of Avi Schaefer ’13 on Thayer Street and the hit-and-run of alums Erinn Phelan ’09 and Alma Guerrero ’09 MD’13 in Brooklyn — Senior Vice President for Corporation Affairs and Governance Russell Carey ’91 MA’06 announced the creation of a pedestrian safety review committee at a March faculty meeting.

Manitowoc County Circuit Judge Darryl Deets restored driving privileges with restrictions Thursday for a 39-year-old Valders man who allegedly struck and killed a Kiel bicyclist, according to court records.
Deets granted Dean J. Koenig driving privileges on Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. to open his tavern and from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up his children from extracurricular school activities. Koenig’s attorney filed a motion to modify the conditions of bail Aug. 24.
Koenig pleaded not guilty to a felony count of hit-and-run causing death in July. He was released on $3,000 cash bail in April.

Nearly eight months after four police officers were placed on paid leave for their alleged involvement in the cover-up of a hit-and-run accident, the police department and City Council have yet to release any information on the case or comment on the investigation, angering residents who feel they’ve waited too long for answers.
