Kids screaming in the Bag Monster's face
Andy Keller set 45,000 plastic bags out across Dilworth Plaza, donned a costume of 500 more and played the role of the Bag Monster outside City Hall on Thursday. The display represents how many bags the typical American uses in a lifetime; the costume was a yearly tally.
As Bag Monster (www.bagmonster.com), he encouraged humans to be more wasteful, thus clearing the path for plastic bags to take over the world. As the California human whose tour started in San Francisco on Aug. 12 and ends in Times Square on Sept. 13, the message was different.
“Kick the single-use bag habit,” he said. “They don’t just disappear after you put them out on your curbside.”
