One way I can tell a band is going to suck 99 cents out my swine-bank with the quickness is if, upon hearing them the first time, I can pick out elements of other artists I totally dig. That’s what happened with The Cave Singers‘ At the Cut. And Leap. And Dancing on our Graves. They — whomever they are who put labels upon things that really don’t need labels in mine eyes — say that it’s indie folk. Which very well may be the case. But I heard elements Ryan Bingham, Black Crowes, Blitzen Trappen, some Talking Heads, even Fleetwood Mac (minus the whole band-member love triangle, I’d presume), a smidge of Kings of Leon (maybe). You might hear differently. That’s why music is as fucking cool as writing.
All of which is to say, check ’em out online. Doesn’t seem as if they’re scheduled to play Philly in the Spring. Maybe that’ll change if they see they have a one-website cheering section. So, you say Cave on the count of three. One, two, three ….
