On Wednesday night, I learned that enough of you stuffed the online ballot box to the point that I won the Pen & Pencil Club’s inaugural award for breaking-news coverage. And I appreciate that.
Fact of the matter is my heavier breaking-news days came in Atlantic City and South Carolina, but a shift to weekly papers and then industry evolution toward quick-hit stories online apparently didn’t warrant finding another (if any) category in which to place me. So goes life, I guess.
Anyway, this post isn’t a humblebrag. Rather, I just wanted to let y’all know that I appreciate your votes and urge you to check out the works of fellow nominees Troy Graham (Inquirer), Kathy Matheson (AP), Alex Wigglesworth (Metro, philly.com) and Damon Williams (Philadelphia Tribune). They all do great work.
