Hit-and-Run America, Vol. MMXXXIX

An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously. 14985. “He lit up the room and he did it with few words, he’s a big personality, smiled a lot,” Yolanda Osborn-Kohn said.

14986. San Antonio police are investigating a fatal hit and run that happened Tuesday night on the West Side.

14987. Police are searching for a driver who struck an 11-year-old riding a bike in New Port Richey early Wednesday morning and then left the scene.

14988. Philadelphia police are investigating the death of a 35-year-old woman who was struck by a passing motorist along North 5th and West Wellens Street. Surveillance video shows a white SUV pulling over moments after striking the woman at 10:25 p.m.

14989. According to the Springfield Police Department, at around 7:45 p.m. Monday officers were called for a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers found an adult woman who was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. Her body was thrown into a fence at St. Michael’s Cemetery and she died due to her injuries.

14991. The Largo Police Department is investigating a deadly hit-and-run where a man was hit by two different cars Wednesday night near U.S. Highway 19, the department said in a news release.

14992. “You took my daughter away and I miss her a lot,” said the victim’s mother Rossetta Ross. “I hope you turn yourself in for what you did.”

14993. The victim, 55-year-old John Ward, was riding a bicycle through Garfield Park when he was struck just before 8:30 p.m. on August 24 in the 3500 block of West Washington Boulevard. Ward died of his injuries Thursday, Chicago police said. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

14994. New evidence reveals that a Venezuelan politician arrested after allegedly leaving the scene of a three-vehicle crash that left a man dead and a woman hurt in Miami had run a red light, and the deceased victim actually had a green light, Miami Police said.

14995. A woman was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run crash in south Sacramento on Thursday night, the police department said.

14996. According to the police report, the driver ran a red traffic light, resulting in a collision with two pedestrians, before fleeing the scene. A 17-year-old pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The other pedestrian, aged 34, declined medical attention.

14997. Brittany and Yolanda Payne were trying to get home from a night out when their lives were cut short this past July. Five weeks later, a family can’t understand how there are no new developments in the case—and want Chicago Police to make the case a priority, as Jermont Terry reports.

14998. According to police, the 55-year-old bicyclist was struck by a 1997 Lincoln Town Car and seriously injured. After nearly two weeks, the victim died on September 5.

14999. Maui police said their preliminary investigation shows that the woman was on a sidewalk on Keala Place when a car turned right out of a parking lot, drove over the curb, onto the sidewalk and into the woman, just before 7:30 p.m. The driver did not stop to render aid and instead drove northbound away from the scene. The woman, known to frequent the Kihei area, was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center with critical life-threatening injuries. She later died from her injuries.

15000. A family is heartbroken and a driver is on the run after crashing into an Uber carrying Kelvin Conteh back in December. Police say Conteh died five days ago after being in a coma for months. Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges says a nationwide warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Eivi Almontes and charges have been upgraded to criminal vehicular homicide. Fatmata Ndiaye held back tears on the phone as she spoke about her brother Conteh. “It has just been the worst nightmare- it still doesn’t feel real,” she said.
