5487. Bridgeport, Ct. Aug. 9. 22-year-old man critically injured when struck by a light-colored Acura Integra which fled the scene.

Unfortunately, this scene is not unfamiliar in Pittsburgh. Despite pedestrian-focused redevelopment projects and national nods from urban planners — Pittsburgh recently ranked No. 9 on George Washington University’s “Most Walkable Cities” list — this city of twisting streets still sees several hundred serious pedestrian injuries a year. The ex-con son of a city cop who died in the line of duty was charged with fatally mowing down a woman in Midtown while allegedly texting on his iPhone, the Daily News has learned.
Thomas Shanley, 35, a construction worker, was on parole on May 31 when he fled the 10th Ave. crash on foot, leaving behind a busted red Dodge Durango SUV and his phone, court records and sources said.
He allegedly struck a fire hydrant between W. 33rd and W. 34th Sts. and hit victim Louise Hicks, who died. He also allegedly hit a male pedestrian who survived.
Shanley was tracked down in New Jersey and arrested on Aug. 1.

NEWBURGH — Eric Geter’s family was shocked when Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced the plea offer being made to the woman who killed Geter in a hit-and-run crash: one-and-a-third to four years in prison.
It’s not enough, Geter’s family says.
This past week, they took to the streets, with a protest starting on Tuesday, in front of the district attorney’s Newburgh office on lower Broadway.
“It’s not right,” said Juanita Geter, Eric’s mother, during Thursday’s protest. Around her, relatives and supporters carried signs asking drivers to “honk for justice for Geter family.”

Investigators say Lee struck the child with a 2012 Kia Sorrento, hit the brakes momentarily and then kept fled the scene.
Lee’s vehicle was captured by a security camera from a passing school bus.

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – A woman was arrested after police said she drove drunk and hit a pedestrian Sunday night.
Police responded to a hit-and-run accident involving Bobbie L. Knight, 46, of Idaho Falls around 10 p.m. on Bellin Road and Barberry Lane. While they were investigating that accident, police also learned Knight had allegedly struck a 21-year-old female pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident on West 17th South and Blue Ridge Drive.

NEW ORLEANS — There’s a fundraiser Monday night for the family of the 37-year-old mother of two who was hit and killed by a speeding ATV more than a week ago.
It was six days ago that Daphne Cola was taken off life support. She never regained consciousness after being hit a week earlier by a four-wheeler in front of Kermit’s Treme Mother-in-Law Lounge.
“Beautiful woman,” said musician Kermit Ruffins. “I had the chance to hang out with her on my many occasions, right here and all over the city for that matter.”
Ruffins is getting personally involved in Cola’s case, playing with his band Monday night and urging the driver in this hit-and-run to surrender to police.
“I would just hope that the family of the kid would cause him to turn himself in,” Ruffins said. “I mean, you never know what you’re going to do. I could be driving my truck one day and run into somebody. It’s the most scariest feeling in the world.”
