LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Nearly a year since a teen was killed in a brutal hit-and-run, a family is now fighting to keep vandals from damaging her memorial.
Nineteen-year-old Deniesha Pugh was hit near 24th and Broadway and her body dragged by a car to 26th Street where she died last June.
Police say the driver never stopped and they have never been able to identify any suspects.
Two of Deniesha’s sisters say visiting her memorial at 26th and Broadway is their one way of feeling connected to her.
In the past two weeks, vandals have stolen teddy bears, flowers and even pictures of Deniesha from the memorial site – adding salt to the wounds of a grieving family still searching for justice and closure.
“It’s very difficult. I cry every day and I know I’m not the only one,” Demetria Pugh said. “I look forward to riding past here every day and seeing my sister’s picture. I don’t know – it just does something to me.
