Aaron Rodriguez, the father of the 5-year-old Riverside girl critically injured in an April 22 hit and run, called Tuesday, May 21, to update the story The Press-Enterprise published in the paper today and online.

A family friend had said Carlie still could not speak or use her left side. Aaron said his daughter has actually begun to speak, although her voice gets weak after talking for a while. She is able to speak in sentences and express her thoughts, a great accomplishment for a little girl who was in a coma for a while after the collision.

Carlie also is making good progress on being able to use her left arm and leg.
