An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

1882. Chicago. Sept. 19. Man killed after he was struck by an Oldsmobile Alero, possibly black, which fled. The driver side mirror was missing.

1883. Homer, NY. Sept. 19. Pedestrian outside his vehicle on an interstate not seriously hurt when struck by a grey Volvo with a missing passenger side mirror.

1884. Southfield, Mich. Sept. 18. Woman crossing the street with groceries thrown 50 to 60 feet before her body finally hit the pavement by a mid-nineties, burgundy Chevy Caprice possibly with some front end damage, which left her dead and fled the scene.

1885. Ville Platte, La. Sept. 19. 50-year-old man on bicycle struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

1886. Boulder Junction, Colo. Sept. 18. 54-year-old man injuried when struck by a 2002 to 2006 Chevrolet or GMC truck or SUV that fled the scene.

1887. Saint Florian, Ala. Sept. 16. 20-year-old man injured when struck by a small blue or silver-colored car, resembling a Mitsubishi Eclipse, which fled the scene.

1888-89. Mountville, Pa. Sept. 20. Two 13-year-old girls riding bicycles home from getting slushies at the Turkey Hill store suffer minor injuries when struck by a light gold sedan missing its passenger-side mirror, which was recovered.

1890. Arlington, Texas. Sept. 21. Man in his 40s struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

Miami-Dade Commissioner Jean Monestime warned on Monday that a multi-car hit-and-run, which left a grandfather dead over the weekend, is a wake-up call to get more street lighting. Monestime told NBC Miami that Jose Aviles-Vaquez’s death on Saturday was “a wake up call that all parties should take it more seriously so we don’t lose any more lives on this particular issue.”

And I quote (II) …

A night out with friends nearly ends in death.The teenager who was run over and his mother are now looking for help finding the person who ran him over.

Gina Tovar told KFOX14, ”Giovanni is barely 19 and barely getting his life started.” But that almost ended on August 26, just after 2 a.m. “I can’t even explain it,” she paused for a second and said, “It was terrifying.”

And I quote (III) …

Police have found no witnesses to a hit-and-run this weekend that left a 19-year-old man dead.
Police say they believe that Jose Medina was crossing the 3300 block of Mansfield Highway north on foot when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling westbound. The driver of the car fled the scene.
“There was no witnesses to the accident so no suspect or suspect vehicle information was obtained,” according to Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman.

And I quote (IV) …

Jacob still has a long way to go on his journey to a full recovery. Meanwhile, Jacob’s loved ones hope the driver responsible for the incident will take responsibility. “Please, whoever did this to my son, please step forward. Live up to your responsibilities, take the blame for what you did, and learn from it for next time, not to leave a child or any person that you hit on the floor and do the right thing,” Shaked said.

A hit-and-run accident Sunday near Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park following the Buffalo Bills’ victory led to the arrest of a 45-year-old Amherst man on a felony charge of driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle.

DENVER (CBS4) – The family of a valet who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver says they are frustrated by the limits of the sentence for the woman who was behind the wheel.
Norma Vera-Nolasco pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide in the death of Jose Medina and will be sentenced on Monday afternoon. She faces as much as 12 years in prison as part of the plea deal and will likely be deported.

The AAA said that in 13 of the 17 hit-and-run accidents, the victim died. About 11 percent of crashes nationwide involve a hit-and-run driver, according to data compiled by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reported an increase of 20 percent between 2000 and 2005 in the number of fatal hit-and-run accidents involving pedestrians.
In the Washington region, the Street Smart campaign says pedestrians and bicyclists accounted for about a quarter of all traffic fatalities between 2006 and 2010.

The hit-and-run accident that left a 4-year-old boy dead has resulted in charges of leaving the scene of an accident against the New Iberia man who was driving the car which hit the child. Police say it is still unclear how the child managed to get out of the car he was riding in before being hit shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday near a New Iberia fast-food restaurant.

Her son was killed in hit and run crash, and whoever did it is still on the loose. Now, a Desert Hot Springs mother wants justice and more help from the California Highway Patrol office in Indio in solving the case.
A makeshift memorial now sits on Varner Road, just off Ramon in Thousand Palms, where 41-year-old Frankie Yarborough died back on January 7 while riding his motorcycle. Yarborough was killed when he crashed into a big rig making an illegal U-turn and the trucker did not stop.
“I feel like the night that guy killed my son, he also killed me because I’m empty and dead inside,” said Frankie’s mother Jeannie Yarborough.

Sanchez, of the 700 block of State Street in Belleville, is accused of driving his minivan into a crowd of people who’d recently left the Social House of Soulard and begun fighting in a nearby parking lot.
Sanchez’s vehicle struck 40-year-old Gary Patch of Columbia, Illinois, around 2:40 a.m. Thursday. Patch was flipped into the air and then dragged beneath Sanchez’s minivan. He was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.

And I quote (XI) …

According to police, the motorcycle was going northbound on Lathrop when the driver lost control. Both the driver and the 24-year-old woman were ejected. The driver then reportedly ran from the scene and has not been found.
