Gregory Brunson, who lived on Marvin Avenue, died just before 2 p.m. Friday from injuries sustained in the accident in the 7200 block of Lem Turner Road just west of Interstate 95, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The 23-year-old Columbia City resident had been going through a drug addiction program at Fairbanks Hospital, a center for recovery and treatment in Indianapolis. But that road to recovery came to a halt early Saturday morning, when he was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Northeastside.
Police found him lying on a grassy area around 5:30 a.m. near the 7400 block of North Shadeland Avenue. He was on his back, with only one of his shoes on. The other one was several feet away along with a few vehicle parts. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cody Flowers, 15, was returning home from a friend’s house in Norlina on May 19, when a vehicle traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 1 crossed the center lane, struck him and didn’t stop.
Flowers suffered several skull fractures and a broken right arm in the crash and was in a medically induced coma at Duke University Hospital in Durham for three days before dying.
Corey Champion, 28, of Raleigh, was arrested June 4 on charges of felony hit-and-run, misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and driving with license revoked.
Flowers’ mother, Susan Walker, says she believes the charge of misdemeanor death by vehicle is not enough.
“I know that I’m a mother and that I have emotions involved, but there has to be some justice,” she said Monday. “A child was killed.”
A conviction on the charge carries a maximum penalty of several months in prison, while a conviction on a felony hit and run charge carries a maximum sentence of about three years.
“Something needs to be said,” Walker said. “I’m trying to be respectful of the law and the case, but at some point, it’s wrong.”

DICKINSON, N.D. —The widow of hit-and-run victim Tracy Freer doesn’t think whoever hit her husband and fatally injured him early Wednesday morning will be able to live with the result of their actions.
“We’re all human,” Roberta Freer said Saturday afternoon, sitting just feet from where her husband was struck. “We know accidents happen and we’re a forgiving family. We just want answers as to what happened — we want whoever this was to do the right thing so we can have closure.”

Sukhjinder Singh, 33, of the 7000 block of Walnut Street, was located within minutes of the accident reported 5:26 p.m. June 7 on the 100 block of Powell Lane.
Megan To, of the 100 block of Glencoe Road, Upper Darby, was riding her two-wheeler when she was struck by a motorist. She suffered a fractured femur, fractured shoulder and head injuries.
“He hit the kid, stopped for a second and takes off,” Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. “Fortunately, a traffic detail was working and sees a car go through two stop signs and stopped him.
“He leaves an 8-year-old on the highway with serious injuries and does not stop to render aid. We found empty heroin bags underneath the seat of his car.”
