The best thing about going to a prize fight in Las Vegas is everything about going to a prize fight in Las Vegas. What an electric scene at the MGM Grand on Saturday night when the judges decided that Floyd Mayweather defeated Marcos Maidana.
Watching it live from section 219 (bought tickets the day before, via Stub Hub and $15 under face value each), I had it as a draw. Two things can easily refute that assertion: You gotta outright beat a champ to take the belt and I have a suspicion that many of Maidana’s haymaker overhand rights didn’t connect which is something you could detect at ringside or on pay-per-view.
Anyway, I wielded my iPhone reportorially to share the experience with all y’all. It was such a fantastic time.
When Freddie Morgan and I were walking through the MGM to grab a burger before heading into the MGM Arena, we happened to find ourselves in the middle of the Adrien Broner entourage somehow.
Having gone to the weigh ins the day before, we knew he planned to “beat the motherfucking shit” out of Carlos Molina (so I urged him to do so as we walked a few steps together). But I had nothing to do with the inspiration for the whole beat the fuck out of a Mexican line.
Well before the main event, we sensed that Maidana had a hell of a boisterous fan base (many Messi jersey on site). Here’s a bunch of ’em dancing in a circle around a lovely lady.
Thankfully, we had no idea that Justin Bieber was part of Floyd’s entourage. But we did hear Lil Wayne singin’ ’em into the ring.
Oh, 2 Chainz performed at the weigh-in spectacle the day before the fight …
