On a GoFundMe page titled “College + Coma = Financial Disaster,” Philly hit-and-run survivor (and personal friend) Doug Markgraf talks about survival. He also talks about how pursuing recovery dreams of college led to debilitating debt.
To the amazement of just about everyone, Doug’s cranium healed. Despite expectations that he would never walk, hold a meaningful conversation or live independently, his body’s resilience and a year of intense therapies and recovery gave him the ability to return to his college dream. He was determined to succeed.
Private college loans paid for his engineering college tuition. His brain injury left him permanently disabled.
With no choice but to change career goals, his life made another huge turn: inspiring the lives of children and adults as an educator and speaker.
The average salary of a teacher is a small fraction of that of an engineer. It has led to debilitating debt.
