As an 11-year-old in Lawrence County last year, Jordan Brown allegedly shot and killed his father’s 8-month-pregnant fiancé before boarding a school bus. If convicted, Brown could become the youngest person in American history to get a life sentence.
DROP story …
• DROP was created as an “alternative to the traditional retirement track.” Upon enrollment, the employee continues to work (maximum of 4 years) but stops making pension contributions that are then credited by the pension fund.
• DROP has paid $673 million to nearly 7,000 retirees.
• Former Mayor John Street tried to kill DROP when the pilot program expired in 2003. The Pension Board kept it.
• Council President Anna Verna will collect a $571,000 lump sum in Jan. 2012. Five other councilmembers are also slated for six-figure payments.
