Listen, I know a little bit about medical comebacks so I’m not here to belittle what Adele accomplished last night.
Her six Grammys were warranted (even if they left Kanye out of the big categories so as not to make voters choose between a stunningly beautiful voice and stunningly excellent artistic craftsmanship).
Her not-too-far-removed-from-surgery performance was also eminently memorable (even if few deigned to notice that she seemed hesitant in a taking-my-voice-for-a-test-ride sense).
And, after hearing someone blasting Rolling In The Deep in their ear phones in an elevator at the Criminal Justice Center in downtown Philly the other day, I can’t help but think hers is a transcendent voice that will leave a larger imprint than it already has.
But the hell if I’m going to sit here and claim that Bruno Mars’s performance wasn’t the outright musical tits of a show that never found its footing, only to have its toes chopped off by whatever the hell Nicki Minaj was trying to accomplish with whatever it is she was doing. (At least she didn’t fornicate with a crucifix). Because it was.
Kudos to Adele, and keep on keeping on coming back to full strength. And props to Bruno who won at least one new fan last night.
