I’m not going to sit here and pretend to know the first thing about IndyCar racing. But what I do know is this: That picture of Dan Wheldon, his wife and children taken a few months ago is utterly heartbreaking. So too is the video we posted at Deadspin yesterday, the one where ESPN was broadcasting his on-board camera for a driver’s POV during Wheldon’s last seconds of life.
RIP, Dan. And condolences to the family. Racers know the risks they take, but it probably doesn’t make it any easier for the survivors, including the children who will grow up without daddy around, with the likelihood that they’ll watch the race in which he died like Dale Jr. has for years now.
I would like to wish family members of dan wheldon all the strength and love to carry this substantial missing in their lives, my feelings are going to be with these people
