My Immediate Thoughts Upon Seeing Video Of Bryan Stow’s Current State

Picture 5 This is really kind of chilling, what with me being able to recognize the phase of recovery Bryan Stow’s at more than eight months after some scumbag Dodgers fans beat him into a coma outside L.A.’s stadium after an opening day game against the SF Giants.

It’s good to see that Stow recognizes there’s a stranger with a camera crew approaching him, and functionally cognitive enough to engage in even a brief exchange. What’s tougher, though, is that he’s still so slowed down with this much time having passed. That, to me at least, speaks to a damage that will never fully go away.

But, it’s important to point out that each and every TBI is different. Take, for instance, another hit-and-run victim who lives in my neighborhood. He got hit on a bike. But, he, too, was comatose. A few days longer than mine. He gets mentally tired a lot more quickly later in the day while I’m kind of more active mentally later in the day. Similar injuries. Different lingering results.

That’s where I was maybe five or six weeks into recovery. Shortly thereafter, things just started clicking and the progress came on a daily basis. I hope Stow gets on that recovery path soon. Though, I think the time elapsed speaks to a rougher road ahead. If you pray, pray for him. If you don’t, send good wishes Bryan Stow’s way. He needs it.

DVR Rock Center on Monday night; there’ll be a report.

Here are a couple of Stow pieces I’ve done over the course of the year.
