On Saturday, Louden accompanied me to Marcus Johnson Memorial Stadium to watch the MLK Cougars football team face off against the Overbrook Panthers. It’s a team we’ve covered extensively this season for NewsWorks. (We being NewsWorks, not me and Louden).
And, a Public League playoff berth was up for grabs, one which MLK would seize with a 20-16 win.
But that’s neither here nor there. Nor is the fact that Philly outsiders might be interested in knowing Overbrook boasts of alumni like Wilt Chamberlain and Will Smith, while the stadium is within eyeshot of Simon Gratz High, which boasts of alumni like the late U.S. Rep. William H. Gray III, boxer Meldrick Taylor, Arizona Cardinals OG Earl Watford and hoops stars Rasheed Wallace and Aaron McKie.
Well, at least that didn’t matter to Louden yesterday, as he stood near the MLK sidelines (meeting their star QB Joseph Walker and coaching staff after the game) or noshed on Doritos while sitting about 10 feet from the corner of the endzone. He was just content pointing out that incompletions were bad and the Overbrook TD he saw was a good play.
Hope he doesn’t want to play the sport, of course. But he had a blast, even if his expression above doesn’t show it.
