Just when you think there’s really nothing more you can say to describe how other-worldly Lionel Messi is most every time he steps on the pitch, he goes and sets a new standard by scoring five goals in a UEFA Champions League match, like he did today against Bayern Leverkusen.
It was also the first time he personally scored five in a match.
And the thing of it was, he made it look so damn simple.
He was where he needed to be at every instant. And if he didn’t slide back into a midfield position after scoring his fifth, he likely would’ve scored a sixth. He just had it today. Markedly moreso than on other days. And on other days, he’s already the best player on earth.
My God, it’s just astonishing. Wayne Rooney agreed:
And what did he say afterward?
“The most important thing is that we won, that’s what we wanted.”
Lionel Messi has disproven the “too good to be true” mantra.
And he doesn’t turn 25 until June.
