It took a jury less than two hours to find scumbag Eric Dee Abshire guilty of killing his wife, kindergarten teacher Justine Elizabeth Swartz Abshire yesterday. They recommended life in prison. That’s probably not enough.
Justine’s family sobbed with emotion as the verdict was read aloud around 4:30 p.m.
“There hasn’t been a day in the last five years when one of us wasn’t crying for her,” said Justine’s mom, Heidi Swartz, of the impact of Justine’s murder on the family. “It’s cost us everything.”
The lifeless mangled body of Justine Abshire was found on rural Taylorsville Road on the early morning of Nov. 4, 2006 by her husband of just five months.
He sloppily staged the scene to make it look like a hit-and-run, but failed to leave any vehicle debris or skid marks. Justine’s cell phone, undamaged, was lying in the road nearby and one of her shoes was 23 feet away, both factors inconsistent with being struck in a standing position by a vehicle.
