Hit-and-Run America, Vol. LXXI

An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

441. Kauai, Hawaii. May 22. Moped rider suffers serious injuries when struck by a silver car which fled the scene, likely with yellow moped paint on it.

442. Santa Fe, Texas. May 22. Two people suffer serious injuries when the car they were in was involved in an accident from which the other vehicle fled. Driver caught since the incident was witnessed by an off-duty Houston police officer who followed him home and waited for cross-jurisdictional back-up. Charges pending.

443. Columbia, Mo. May 22. 31-year-old man injured when struck by a vehicle (description not yet released) that fled the scene.

444. Syracuse, NY. May 25. Bicyclist in his 40s suffers head injury that left him in critical condition when struck by a gray or silver vehicle which fled the scene.

445. Kansas City, Mo. May 22. Biker remains in critical condition after hitting a fire hydrant when he was cut off by a stop-sign-running Ford Explorer, which another biker ran into, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. SUV driver took off, was later found, but has yet to be charged.

446. Knoxville, Tenn. May 24. 64-year-old motorcyclist suffers non-life-threatening injuries when struck by a pickup truck which fled the scene.

447. Chicago. May 24. 12-year-old William Larson (pictured) fighting for his life after being struck by “a white, two-door convertible Cadillac Eldorado. “When he was rolling under the car, we was like, ‘stop, stop. He’s under your car.’ The man stopped in the middle of the street and then reversed back,” one witness said. “The boy was underneath the car when he got hit the first time, so when he backed up, that’s when the boy got drug.” From there, the driver took off. Real class act.

448. Albertville, Ala. May 22. Man riding a bike injured, to the point of needing an airlift, when struck by a vehicle which fled the scene.

449. Columbus, Ohio. May 22. 20-year-old bicyclist fatally struck by a vehicle which fled the scene.
