PORT RICHMOND (WPVI) — A grandmother who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Port Richmond is now out of a coma but police are still searching for the driver who hit her.

65-year-old Carmen Ramos has always been a full of life type of woman who just loved to dress up in silly clothes and have fun with her grandchildren.

But her family says she was almost taken away in an instant.

“We all heard an impact but until I heard my sister screaming nobody realized my mother was hit by a car,” said Yvette Ramos, victim’s daughter.

And I quote (II)…

Alton Kirkland was sentenced to 35 years in prison. He pleaded guilty in January to vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

In May 2014, he hit 18-year-old Jordan Sprouse with his car near West 32nd Avenue and Kipling Street in Wheat Ridge and left the scene. Prosecutors say he was drunk, and his girlfriend and her two children were in the car and were injured. (H/T Myles C.)

The 10-month search for the suspect in a hit-and-run that killed a 61-year-old woman crossing a Santa Monica street has ended with the arrest of a Sherman Oaks man.

And I quote (IV)…

HOLIDAY, FL (WFLA) – Pasco deputies identified the man they say struck a pregnant pedestrian and fled the scene.

Deputies say the woman, Crystal Lynn Noordhuizen, 32, was hit around 1 p.m. on Westwood Drive near Sun Toyota off US 19 in Holiday. She was walking east on Westwood Drive’s south shoulder, deputies said. Noordhuizen, from Holiday, is 7 months pregnant.

And I quote (V)…

A 25-year-old man who spent an afternoon drinking at a Southeast Portland strip club, drove drunk, then killed a pedestrian before driving away to cover up his crimes was sentenced to four years in prison Monday.

Jay Taylor Jenkins pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, driving under the influence of intoxicants and hit-and-run driving for the Feb. 15 death of Douglas Norman Miller. Miller had meth in his system and was not at a crosswalk as he tried to cross Southeast Powell Boulevard near 124th Avenue about 6:30 p.m.

Jenkins sobbed and apologized to relatives of Miller, who offered their forgiveness. After the hearing and before a deputy escorted Jenkins out of the courtroom in handcuffs, Miller’s relatives and Jenkins held hands and prayed.

A Goshen man will serve no jail time after a fatal hit and run that occurred last year in Roseland.

And I quote (VII)…

After Amanda Marie Dahl hit and killed 15-year-old Khiar Raymond with her burnt orange Mercedes in December, she drove off but she didn’t go very far, according to police.

On surveillance video, Dahl is seen parking her car at a nearby fire station, jumping a fence and going back toward the scene, where a crowd was building as officers closed off the area. Police say there were plenty of officers who she could have told what happened. But she didn’t.

A Berkeley cyclist has died following a hit-and-run crash with a car earlier this month on University Avenue, authorities said Tuesday.

PHOENIX – Phoenix Police say they have identified a woman who remains in critical condition after being hit by an SUV in Phoenix early Monday morning.

And I quote (X)…

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Attorneys disagreed Tuesday whether Alicia Alampi’s drunkenness caused a 27-year-old pedestrian’s death when she hit him with her Jeep in December 2013 in Syracuse.

During opening arguments at Alampi’s vehicular manslaughter trial, defense attorney Emil Rossi acknowledged her blood alcohol content was .12 that night. That’s more than the .08 legal limit to drive. He, however, said there is no evidence to prove that her drunkenness caused the accident.
