5697. Rock Hill, SC. Sept. 30. 57-year-old man critically injured when struck by a dark Jeep Grand Cherokee which fled the scene.
5698. Fairhope, Ala. Oct. 1. 42-year-old man on bicycle injured when struck by a Honda SUV which fled the scene.
5699. Temple, NH. Sept. 25. Well-known circus teacher injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

A West Salem High School choir teacher faces a charge of a felony hit and run after she was accused of failing to stay at the scene of a crash when a child collided with the vehicle she was driving and broke his leg.
Salem Police said that Kimberly McConnell, 52, was legally required to provide necessary information, render aid to the 8-year-old boy and remain at the scene until the arrival of a police officer.
But her attorney, Salem-based Walter Todd, said Wednesday, that the crash was unavoidable and McConnell’s husband stayed at the scene while she took her son only blocks away to West Salem High School and returned minutes later to find that the boy had been taken to a hospital in a private vehicle.

Alex Cole Thackery, of Meridian, left the scene of the Oct. 17, 2013, accident in Downtown Boise, drove about a mile and a half and then parked his SUV. About 45 minutes later, he returned on foot and called 911 to report he’d been the driver who struck a bicyclist.
Thackery, now 19, is charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury and misdemeanor careless or inattentive driving.
“Alex is not guilty – because he returned,” Thackery’s attorney, Annie McDevitt, said in opening statements at his trial Tuesday in Fourth District Court. She said it took him longer than a “normal” person, but he did do the right thing.

Los Angeles Police Department Central Traffic Division detectives are investigating a hit and run collision that killed 101-year-old Jose Noriega, a Los Angeles resident. Detectives are looking for additional witnesses.

Investigators realized the collision was an attempted homicide when witnesses told them the driver was wearing a clown mask as he drove at the bicyclist, and that he appeared to intentionally accelerate and swerve to hit him, police said.

Five days after the crime, Ozark Police impounded a jeep they believed was used in the hit-and-run. A news release was sent out, thanking the public for a “quick resolution of this case.” Three months later, no one has been charged with the crime.
“I feel like the person is probably going through their own sort of process….being mad about the situation won’t fix anything,” Burks said.

For three decades, the key to identifying a pedestrian struck and killed near an interstate exit ramp sat at investigators’ fingertips. They just didn’t realize it.
The man was walking on Interstate 65 in central Kentucky in 1984 when he was struck by a semitruck. With no identification, the only clues he left were a couple of tattoos, a pack of cigarettes and his fingerprints.
The prints yielded no matches. John Doe’s body remained unidentified thirty years later, when the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System asked state police to review cold cases.

The man accused of hitting two students at a bus stop in Wilson County on Thursday was a fugitive with an outstanding deportation warrant, authorities said Friday.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol and Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said they have confirmed that Marcos Santiaga Bautista, 27, of Mexico, failed to attend a non-detention immigration hearing in South Carolina.
His first court appearance was Friday morning and his bond was increased to $1,002,000.
