SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) — An anonymous note left for police helped lead to the arrest of a 16-year-old boy, accused of hitting skateboarder earlier this month in Santa Rosa and driving away from the scene.
The August 6 crash left 20-year-old David Crowhurst with severe injuries, including a fractured skull, orbital sockets and other broken bones. Family members said Crowhurst was recovering but on Wednesday updated his condition to say he was having emergency surgery to remove air pockets from his skull.
The unidentified 16-year old suspect was arrested Monday and faces felony hit and run charges, according to Santa Rosa Police.

Alexandra Ellis, who killed bicyclist Jeff Dusenbury while driving intoxicated in South Anchorage last year, was sentenced Wednesday to a year in prison.

Under unseasonably cool weather and a little rain, bicyclists across central Iowa rode Wednesday in memory of a fellow cyclist who was killed in a hit-and-run this week.
Gregary “Wade” Franck, 41, was struck by a drunken driver in Des Moines on Sunday while he was riding in the Urban Assault Ride, police said. Franck, who was known by his middle name, died from his injuries Tuesday.
Immediately, bicyclists set up group rides to honor his memory and bring awareness to the treatment of cyclists on the road.
Bike shops in Beaverdale, Altoona and Ames hosted group rides Wednesday using the #RideForWade hashtag on social media. Also joining in was Kyle’s Bikes in Ankeny — the shop where Franck worked as sales manager.

TAUNTON — Tanya Thomas-Bacon said she’s outraged that the man who spent time in jail for driving off after hitting and killing her teenage nephew in 2011 is being charged with fleeing the scene after causing a crash this week.

DETROIT – Police are asking for the public’s help finding Jimmie Lee Jackson (above, left) and Diana Hardy (right), who are wanted as suspects in the hit-and-run incident that killed a 27-year-old Detroit woman on Tuesday.
Witnesses say Jackson was speeding without headlights on when he ran into LaDon Grice’s car while she tried to get out the door. It happened just before 11 p.m. Monday in the 7700 block of Greenview on Detroit’s west side.

Cops are looking for a woman who plowed into a 2-year-old girl while biking through Riverside Park early on Saturday evening, then left the scene. The crash happened near W. 95th Street at about 6 p.m. The cyclist was riding “unbelievably fast” when she hit the toddler in the shared bike and pedestrian path along the Hudson River, according to Joshua Sperber, who was sitting in the park with his own 7-month-old at the time. Sperber was horrified by what he saw.
“It felt like someone hit me in the stomach with a sledgehammer,” he said.
