NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department announced an arrest Thursday night in a hit-and-run accident that left a bicyclist dead.
Police said 31-year-old Rolan White was detained after they received a call from a resident identifying White as the suspect. Investigators said the person also gave police the location of Whites’ vehicle.
The accident happened Wednesday night when a witness said a dark-colored SUV hit 29-year-old Monique Massey in the 2900 block of Leon C. Simon Drive. Witnesses said Massey flipped over the SUV and fell to the ground. She was taken to the hospital, where she died.

The driver accused of running over a homeless man lying in a Midtown Fort Collins road first told police he thought he ran over trash and later confessed to realizing it was a person, panicking and fleeing the scene, court records show.
Lance Ray, 37, of Fort Collins, was charged this week with leaving the scene of the Feb. 29 crash that critically injured 53-year-old George Taylor at the intersection of Spring Park Drive and College Avenue. Newly unsealed court records help bring into focus what allegedly happened in the nearly deserted stretch of city that Monday night.
