A San Francisco labor lawyer who ran over and killed a 57-year-old bicyclist in Dublin was sentenced Friday to 30 days in county jail after an Alameda judge reduced his felony hit-and-run case to a misdemeanor over the objections of prosecutors.
Alameda County Superior Court Judge Michael Gaffney also ordered Spencer Smith, 35, to wear an electronic monitoring ankle device for 11 months and abstain from alcohol before beginning his month-long jail sentence. He was also ordered to serve three year of probation.

BELLINGHAM: A woman has been arrested after police say she hit a 12-year-old boy on a bicycle with her car, dropped him off at school, and then drove away Tuesday morning, Oct. 6.
Ann Marie Loeuy, 36, was driving without a valid license when she hit the boy near the intersection of Cottonwood Avenue and Cherrywood Avenue on Tuesday morning, Oct. 6, said Sgt. Ken Brown. The boy had minor injuries to his leg and a cut on his face as a result of the collision.
Loeuy put the boy and the bike in her car and dropped him off at Shuksan Middle School, a couple of blocks away, police said. The boy went to the school nurse. School officials called 911 and the boy was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but was not seriously injured. He was not identified by police.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A local restaurant manager is recovering after both his legs were broken in a hit and run crash.
In police recorded interviews, the man who hit him denied any involvement then blamed the incident on the victim.

LAS VEGAS– A man accused of killing a local father in a hit-and-run crash has asked the judge for leniency, but the family is looking for justice.
Investigators say Todd Seifert was speeding more than 60 miles per hour on the strip when he slammed into Jesus Andrade. Officers said the Andrade, who was a construction worker, was walking in a crosswalk to work when he was hit and left for dead.
Police said Seifert, a tourist, ditched his rental car and hopped onto a flight home. Seifert paid as much as $2,000 for the damages caused to the car.

A 19-year-old Griffith woman who told police she was checking old texts on her phone at the time of a crash early Monday has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death–and is wanted by police.

The staff and other patrons of the Lone Goose Saloon are still dealing with the death of 84-year-old Thomas Teenor, who they affectionately called “Mr. Tom.”
Teenor was leaving the bar Oct. 3 when he was fatally struck by a vehicle. Police are still searching for the person who was driving the dark-colored sedan which hit and killed him.

CLEVELAND – Chelsea Hill’s family remembered her life on Saturday, a bittersweet celebration on the day that would have been her 15th birthday.
Cleveland police say the 14-year-old was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver around 1 a.m. May 25 at the intersection of Carnegie and East 40th.

Jack Jean-Baptiste, 52, was out riding his bicycle to pick up snacks at a store for some relatives on Sunday. His family said he was the type of person with a big heart and helped anyone in need. “Jack is a very kind person. Jack doesn’t care if you’re white, if you’re black, if you’re all,” said Edeline Louis-Jean. “Whoever you are, Jack was always there to help you.”

A Lower Macungie Township man who hit a jogger while driving drunk, then fled, will avoid going to jail.
Instead, 58-year-old Kevin Stumpp will serve one year of house arrest, followed by three years of probation, for a second-offense DUI and accidents involving injury. Stumpp’s driver’s license will also be suspended for two years.

A new description of the car believed to be connected to the hit-and-run death of a St. Johns County girl has been brought to The Record’s attention.
When Haley N. Smith, 15, was struck by a car on Kenton Morrison Drive on Nov. 16, 2013, a small vehicle, possibly a pickup truck, was seen fleeing south on Holmes Boulevard. But witnesses said the suspect car was a dark-colored truck or SUV, according to a release from the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Evidence at the scene indicates that the car could either be a 1984 through 2004 Chevy S-10 pickup truck, a GMC S15 pickup truck, a Chevy S-10 Blazer SUV or a GMC Jimmy SUV.
