SOUTH AUSTIN, TX — Police said Friday a bicyclist injured in a hit-and-run crash last month has died, his death becoming a grim statistic as the city’s 39th traffic death so far this year.
Elijah Ponthier, who would have turned 27 on Aug. 9, died Tuesday while being treated for his injuries at St. David’s South Austin Hospital. Police now seek the public’s help in finding the driver of the car — described as a dark-colored vehicle (no other details are known) — that hit Ponthier.
The bicyclist was hit while bicycling south on Bluff Springs Road at Chateau Village Way, police said. The incident occurred July 10 at 11:40 p.m.

The Chargers have requested the public’s assistance after an intern in their public relations department was struck early Friday morning by a hit-and-run driver while walking across a Pacific Beach street.
J’Ron Erby, 23, suffered severe brain damage and is in critical condition, a team official said. He joined the team last month as a season-long intern. According to his LinkedIn profile, Erby also interned for the Washington Redskins from January to June this year.
He played defensive back at Wayne State College, a Division II school in Nebraska, and worked as a sports editor of the campus newspaper.
“We’re asking for everyone to keep him and his family in their prayers right now,” said Bill Johnston, Chargers director of public relations. “He hasn’t been with the team very long, but he’s made a lot of good friends here. A lot of people are praying for him.”

BRIDGEPORT – A former state corrections officer, awaiting trial for the horrific hit and run that killed a local woman and injured her young son in December 2014, has been charged with threatening to beat her 5-year-old granddaughter unless the girl falsely accused her father of sexually assaulting her.
It was the second arrest for Patricia Daniels, 43, who refers to herself on Facebook as “The Prophetess,” since she was charged in the Dec. 4, 2014, crash that killed Evelyn Agyei and injured her 11-year-old son on Boston Avenue.

Livleen Kaur Kahlon of Teaneck, New Jersey was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in Island Park on July 15. Police are still looking for the driver, while friends and family are trying to help cover her medical bills.
Kahlon was visiting friends in Long Beach. The 31-year-old woman fell off her bicycle into the right hand lane while she was making a right turn toward the Long Beach Bridge at the intersection of Railroad Place and Long Beach Road. She was run over by a car that kept going, police said. The accident occurred at 2:23 a.m.
She suffered 10 fractured ribs, a lacerated liver and contusions to one lung. Kahlon was released from Intensive Care on July 26, and is now home.
