Hit-and-Run America, Vol. DCCCXXXII

An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously. 11601. A teenager walking along a busy road in DeKalb County was struck and killed early Wednesday morning, police say. DeKalb County Police officers responded to the crash that killed a 15-year-old boy on Flat Shoals Parkway near Wellington Court in Decatur at around 2 a.m. His mother identified the teen as Quartez Mender.

11602. Phoenix police are looking for a driver after the body of a bicyclist was found following a hit-and-run incident Tuesday evening in Laveen, authorities said.

11603. Memphis police are searching for suspects after a woman died during a hit-and-run accident.

11604. “He was the most selfless human being that I’ve ever met,” said Dorie.

11605. Police said the suspect driver got out of his vehicle and walked away on foot. Officers are searching for him in the neighborhood around Southeast McLoughlin and Southeast Holgate.

11606. Police say they found dozens of empty alcohol bottles and cans in the SUV of a man charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run Wednesday in Monroeville.

11607. A Seaside police officer and former union chief entered a plea of guilty on Thursday, Sept. 2, to charges of a hit-and-run. … He was sentenced to one year of probation, 10 days in jail and ordered to pay restitution in an amount estimated to be about $3,000 for damage to the Mar Vista wall and landscaping.

11608. A 52-year-old man was killed and his 11-year-old son was injured after they were hit by a vehicle while walking along Governor Ritchie Highway in Severna Park on Saturday night, Anne Arundel County police said Sunday.

11609. “They hit him and left him like a dog,” Mender’s mother, Malaika Kulenga, told Channel 2 Action News. “He died on the street.”

11610. The report says Angela Lane, 48, was walking her German shepherd when a vehicle believed to be made by General Motors between 1990-2003 hit them, killing them both.

11611. During an interview with officers, Subramanian admitted he’d “hit something and had seen flashing lights while driving southbound on Gladstone Avenue on this way to work.”

11612. TERRYTOWN, La. (WVUE) – A 52-year-old man was killed Sunday night (Sept. 5) after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on a storm-darkened state highway, Louisiana State Police said.

11613. PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police need the public’s help after new surveillance video shows the moments a Philadelphia mother and her son were hit by a car last month. Police say Rebecca Malave and her 3-year-old son, Armani Negron, were leaving a friend’s house when they were struck on the 100 block of West Luzerne Street in North Philadelphia on Aug. 8 around 8 p.m.

11614. Officers went to the hospital to speak with the victim, but incident reports say the victim was in surgery and ultimately died.

11615. “I just screamed and my body gave out,” Andrew Willingham’s sister Erin Meleney said of the moment she learned her brother had died. “The vision of two police officers and a doctor pulling us into that small room is something I’ll never get out of my mind.”

11616. Authorities pronounced a woman dead at the scene. Police identified the victim as Leah Martin, 24.

11617. “The driver of the sedan then entered a gas station driveway area while dragging the pedestrian underneath the vehicle,” according to a Los Angeles Police Department statement. “The hit-and-run driver then backed up, turned around and fled southbound (on) Foothill Boulevard without stopping, identifying himself/herself, or attempting to render aid to the pedestrian that sustained fatal injuries.”

11618. “If they can find something in their heart to come forward. It’s my mom. Everybody has family,” Christopher Triolet said. “And we have to live with this for the rest of our lives. And if anybody can come forward, it would mean a lot.”

11619. Falmouth police are looking for the driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run that killed an 81-year-old man late Friday night.

11620. “He can’t do nothing but scream. They have to keep giving him medicine so he can stay calm,” said Molina.

11621. In September 2019, Emily Stevens, a young mother of three, was killed by a hit-and-run driver as she was walking home from Shooting Star Casino in Bagley. The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office believes they have a good idea of who’s involved, but say they need actual evidence in the case.

11622. A 3-month-old baby girl was killed, and her 33-year-old mother is in serious condition after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in Clinton Hill Saturday, police say.

11623. “They only use it for anti-terrorism purposes, for what they consider real criminal investigations — which never are hit-and-run collisions, except in the case of fatal or near-fatal collisions,” Vaccaro said.

11624. Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say a 2014-2018 GMC Sierra pickup fled after it struck a person attempting to cross West Washington Street near Edgehill Road in his wheelchair about 9:15 p.m. Saturday.

11625. Two teens were crossing Durango against a traffic signal when one of the teens was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound, police said. The vehicle was described as a 2011-2017 red Dodge Charger. The boy was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
