DAYTON — Natasha L. Lawson-White did not appear to have life-threatening injuries when the driver of a 1995 BMW, apparently fleeing from sheriff’s deputies, ran head-on into her SUV on North Gettysburg Drive, then took off running after crawling from his vehicle.
Lawson-White, 38, who suffered a broken ankle, two broken hips and a broken leg in the Oct. 11 crash, died from a blood clot during surgery last week, turning the hit-and-run accident into one with potentially more serious charges.
“The driver has yet to be apprehended,” Dayton police Sgt. Larry Tolpin said Monday.

A San Francisco police report from 1999 says Colorado Treasurer-elect Walker Stapleton smelled of alcohol, was “loud and belligerent” and was driving away from the scene of an accident, initially refusing to stop even after officers arrived.
But Stapleton, who beat incumbent Democratic Treasurer Cary Kennedy earlier this month, said the police report of the accident — which he released to The Denver Post on Monday — doesn’t paint a full picture of what happened 11 years ago. He said he’s still trying to get copies of other documents — his initial statement to police and records from the district attorney’s office — to show the accident was not a hit-and-run.

The driver that struck and killed a University of Miami student in Coral Gables is a local fashion model (pictured), who lives near the accident scene and had come forward to police two days after the crash.
Police said Valentina Andrews Hubsch, 45, has admitted being behind the wheel of the 2004 silver Hyundai that hit Jared Paul Jones, a 21-year-old English major from Maryland.

Lincoln McKenna considers himself a careful motorcyclist — the California Highway Patrol sergeant wore safety equipment and had never crashed. But in an instant, his riding days ended when he was run off the road in September in an apparent act of road rage by a driver still at large.
McKenna, his wife, Melinda, and the couple’s three children were looking forward to closing escrow on a house in rural Madera on Sept. 29. Instead McKenna spent that day at a hospital in the Bay Area learning to live without the lower portion of his right leg.
McKenna, an eight-year veteran, was off-duty at the time of the crash.
