BEDFORD, N.H. (AP) — The Manchester Police Department has confirmed that one of its police vehicles is being investigated as the possible suspected vehicle in a hit-and-run crash that injured two pedestrians in Bedford.
Two people were hit Friday night at about 9:20 p.m. while walking on Harrod Lane. Authorities say the driver fled the scene without stopping.
Police say one of the victims suffered head trauma and was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The other victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
UPDATE: Cop charged.

SELDEN – Police say a Bay Shore man tried to take the blame last night after his Medford girlfriend hit a teen in Selden, then took off.
Investigators say driver Milissa O’Brien struck a 16-year-old boy with her 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier at Route 25 and Marshall Drive, and then left the scene.
She allegedly returned a short time later and claimed that her boyfriend, Anthony Bonello, was behind the wheel at the time of the incident.

Just before 8 a.m. Saturday, a person driving home from work in southeast Austin notices a body laying on the shoulder of south highway 183. Near the body is glass and parts of a vehicle
“The deceased was found right on the edge of what’s caused a paved shoulder of the highway,” explained APD Cpl. Ken McDonnell. “So there is some debris off to the side of the roadway that makes us believe that a vehicle might have hit the person.”
This is the seventh deadly vehicle-pedestrian crash this year.
“If you’re a pedestrian, you want to try and stay off the roadways,” McDonnell said. “You know, you want to try and be facing toward the traffic if you are walking. And it’s best to be in a well lit area and this area here is not lit at all at night time, so you know all those can make for a bad combination.”

OREM — A man who apparently tried to use a “for rent” sign to cover up signs of a hit-and-run has been tracked down by police thanks to the trail of oil he left behind.
The owner of the damaged vehicle, Bill Pratt, tried to leave for work at 3 a.m. Thursday, but found his car window smashed in and a “for rent” sign shoved inside the vehicle.
“I had no idea if someone just hated me and slammed (the sign) through my window,” he said.
The sign was likely to try and make it look like vandalism, Orem Police Sgt. Craig Martinez said. But the car had actually been sideswiped — and the driver who hit the car left a trail.

“Before further action could be taken, the vehicle abruptly pulled northbound into the intersection and made a turn onto University Street from the wrong lane, against a circular red traffic signal,” Detective Renee Witt said in a statement. “The vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing Third Avenue eastbound along the intersection’s southern marked crosswalk during this turning movement. The pedestrian suffered a broken right leg as a result of this collision.”

The hunt for the motorist who ran over Dustin Valenta then fled the scene is one step closer, but the cyclist’s lawyer says it’s no thanks to the Chicago Police Department. Earlier today attorney Michael Keating received red light camera footage of the pick-up truck from the city in response to a request he filed soon after the February 8 crash. Keating is optimistic it will be possible to make out the license plate number using video enhancement equipment. “But it’s preposterous that the police didn’t do this themselves sooner,” he said.

Sherry Houtz, 32, was struck and killed while walking along Interstate 99 in the early morning hours of Feb. 12. The driver who ran down the mother of two young children kept going and has not been identified.

ALBANY – Ian Eckardt-Rigberg, a 20-year-old with a history of vehicle crashes on his record, was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for killing a man in a brazen hit-and-run last year in Arbor Hill.
“I never meant any of this to happen,” Ian Eckardt-Rigberg told state Supreme Court Judge Thomas Breslin. “I’m responsible for my own actions and the harm I’ve done to your family.”
Earlier this month, the Bethlehem man admitted to second-degree manslaughter before Breslin, resolving a case that could have sent him to prison for 5 to 15 years.
Instead, he was sentenced Thursday to 3½ to 10 years in prison for the manslaughter charge. Breslin also ordered him to serve a 6-year term for leaving the scene of the accident, though Eckardt-Rigberg will serve the two sentences at the same time.

A former NOPD officer accused last fall of falsifying a police report, a felony, to cover up an alleged hit-and-run accident in his personal car pleaded to a lesser charge Tuesday. Roger Jones Jr., 39, admitted he was guilty of criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, Municipal Court records show.
Jones received a suspended, 60-day jail sentence, and he must pay a fine and court costs totaling $235, said his lawyer, Anna Friedberg, who declined to comment further Wednesday.

ALBANY, NY –A Schenectady man was indicted by a Grand Jury Thursday in the death of a bicyclist after authorities say he struck him on Manning Boulevard in the City of Albany and continued to lead police on a chase into Schenectady County.

On the night of Nov. 17, 2011, two young adult brothers and a friend were walking in a pedestrian crosswalk on Willow Road near Ivy Street in east Menlo Park when a car slammed into them.
According to a Menlo Park police report, the car knocked down 21-year-old Alfred Souffront and thrust his younger brother, Brian, 19, into the air. The car, which according to a witness and one of the brothers was driven by a woman, stopped momentarily and then “fled the scene,” the police report said.
Sixteen months later, the hit-and-run driver remains on the loose and police admittedly don’t have a suspect. From what I can tell — after examining police reports and interviewing the Souffront brothers and a police department commander — this accident was never thoroughly investigated at the outset and has languished because police seem less interested in finding the culprit than in blaming the victims for the accident.
