El Paso hit-and-run scene


An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

3654. San Jose, Cal. April 14. Officer injured when struck by a dark-colored four-door Acura which fled the scene.

3655. Auburn, NY. April 16. Young boy on bike injured when struck by a dark sedan which fled the scene.

3656. Mount Pleasant, Texas. April 16. 49-year-old woman seriously injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

3657. El Paso, Texas. April 15. 6-year-old girl injured when struck by a dark SUV which fled the scene.

3658. Vicksburg, Miss. April 16. 9-year-old boy critically injured when struck by a vehicle which fled the scene; driver caught roughly 15 minutes later.

And I quote (I)…

After analyzing evidence left at the scene, police identified the hit-and-run vehicle as a Gray/Silver mid-late 90’s 4-door Mercury. They then identified the driver as 69-year-old Barbara Messerschmidt of Barrington, NJ.

Detectives say Messerschmidt confessed Tuesday night. According to investigators, Messerschmidt told police she was driving her car southbound on Haddon Avenue when she was unable to stop before striking the girl. She told police she then panicked and fled the scene without stopping to help the victim.

And I quote (II)…

Three people were hurt early Sunday morning in a hit-and-run in Eastlake, police said.

Around 1:45 a.m., a group of people were fighting on a cruise ship, which spilled out onto the street where the boat was docked at Fairview Avenue and Blaine Street.

Police said a man got into his vehicle, backed up and struck a vehicle. He then drove recklessly west on Blaine and hit three pedestrians who were on the corner of Fairview and Blaine.

The vehicle was last seen driving southbound on Fairview Avenue East without stopping.

And I quote (III)…

Not only was her torso cut, but she also suffered from a severe head injury and was in a coma. She had a broken pelvis and arm.

“I just talked to her father she’s in a nursing facility. She just started speaking a little bit last week. She doesn’t remember anything at all like her life too much,” he said.

And I quote (IV)…

Anne Arundel County Police said Monday that a 15-year-old boy who was struck in a hit-and-run accident in Pasadena on Friday night has died.

Skylar Marion, 15, of Pasadena, had been walking along Mountain Road — a dangerous roadway with a long history of fatalities — with two other juveniles at about 9:25 p.m. when he and a 13-year-old girl from Clearwater Beach were struck by a passing vehicle.

And I quote (V)…

A 30-year-old driver from Detroit turned himself in early Tuesday, claiming he was involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian on Detroit’s east side, according to Detroit Police.

The 41-year-old victim from Detroit was found lying in the street after the 10:29 p.m. crash on Gratiot Avenue at Sanford, according to a Detroit Police source. Passerby said a dark-colored Buick Century left the scene, heading south on Gratiot.

And I quote (VI)…

A witness at the scene, Ruth Ann Short, said a group of about five men were standing on the corner taunting a handful of individuals inside a nearby apartment to come outside. Soon, those on the receiving end of the taunting emerged with baseball bats, leading to a foot chase down the street, she said.

Short added she saw some men get into a white car that backed into a van parked on the street before moving forward and striking the male victim, who “went rolling into the grass.”

And I quote (VII)…

Steven Yang is seeking justice and wants closure for his family.

The 23-year-old recent Rutgers University graduate from Harrison had just landed a full-time job and was eager to convince his mom, Mei Wang, to retire from her business running a Chinese restaurant in town.

Then on March 17, while walking home from the PATH station after attending a party in New York, Mei Wang was struck by a tractor trailer and killed at the age of 49.

And I quote (VIII)…

COOS BAY, Ore. (KMTR) – A Coos Bay man is in jail after he let his unlicensed daughter drive while he was intoxicated Sunday evening.

Police say 43-year-old Ronald Lee Walter of Coos Bay was teaching his daughter how to drive in the parking lot at the Plainview RV Park, where neighbors say the girl and her mother live. The Coos County Sheriff’s Office says the girl lost control of the vehicle and struck a parked pick-up truck at the RV Park. Witnesses say the momentum against the parked vehicle bumped it against the owner’s trailer.
