An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

3473. Austin, Texas. Feb. 22. Man injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

3474. Portland, Ore. Feb. 23. Woman suffers non-life-threatening injuries when struck by a dark truck or SUV which fled the scene.

3475-76. Miami, Fla. Feb. 23. 48-year-old man killed and woman in her 20s injured when struck by a white Mercedes SUV which fled the scene.

3477. Dallas, Texas. Feb. 23. 44-year-old man killed when struck and dragged 100 feet by a yellow, gold or orange pickup truck which fled the scene.

3478. Nanticoke, Pa. Feb. 22. 16-year-old on a scooter injured when struck by a dark, four-door older-model vehicle which fled the scene.

3479-80. Sacramento, Cal. Feb. 21. Two 17-year-olds injured when struck by a Ford pickup which fled the scene.

During Edward Orr’s first appearance in Suffolk County Criminal Court on charges related to a fatal hit and run in Amagansett in October, the prosecution made claims that Orr tried to cover it up by staging a second accident. (H/T Sandy)

NEW LONDON, WI (WTAQ) – Police in New London are looking for leads in a 1985 fatal hit-and-run crash.

The New London Police Department says on July 18, 1985, Frank Latza was struck by a van on Waupaca Street in New London at 9:35 p.m.

Responding officers found Latza lying in the roadway, alive and in pain. He later died at the New London Community Hosptial from his injuries.

Police say the vehicle that hit Latza never stopped to help.

The Vallejo Adult School is mourning the death of its principal Friday after he succumbed to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident last week.

Paul Jacobs, 63, was struck by an unidentified vehicle at about 10:40 p.m. Feb. 13 as he rode his bicycle in the bike lane on Columbus Parkway, near Hilary Way and not too far from his home off Ascot Parkway.

The driver failed to stop, and Jacobs was flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. He never regained consciousness again and died Thursday night, Superintendent Ramona Bishop said.

“He just never came back to us,” Bishop said Friday as she prepared to notify the Vallejo City Unified School District staff.

As Athens-Clarke County Police continue to piece together a case to make an arrest in the hit-and-run that left a Woodstock woman in a coma, a local man may be in their crosshairs.

Emily Bowman, 19, a former Kennesaw State University student, was in Athens last weekend to celebrate the birthday of a friend when she was hit by a pick-up truck that fled and was found abandoned not far from the scene.

The red Mazda pick-up truck is registered to a Cartersville man, but police have neither released his identity nor the names of any suspects.

A driver accused of killing an Englewood police officer in a hit-and-run accident has pleaded guilty to charges including vehicular homicide.

Conner Donohue also pleaded guilty Friday to driving under the influence, vehicular assault, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injuries.

Police say Officer Jeremy Bitner had pulled over another driver last May and was talking to the driver when an SUV struck both of them.

Another killer gets a slap on the wrist.

AUSTIN (February 22, 2013)—The sentence a jury recommended Friday means Baylor graduate and former state legislative aide Gabrielle Nestande, 25, won’t go to prison for a hit-and-run accident in 2011 in Austin that left a pedestrian dead.

Jurors, who convicted Nestande Thursday of criminally negligent homicide, recommended a suspended 10-year sentence a $10,000 fine Friday.

State District Judge Karen Sage ordered a pre-sentencing review and said the final terms and conditions of Nestande’s probation will be determined at a hearing on March 25.

Nestande could have been sentenced to as much as 10 years in prison.
