After a seven-year search, police have caught the suspect wanted in a 2005 hit-and-run fatality in Ozone Park, thousands of miles away from where the incident happened.
Paula Bartolo, 56, was arrested by authorities in Spain and was extradited to New York on Dec. 21 to face first-degree manslaughter charges in the incident, which left a developmentally disabled teenager dead. Police say Bartolo, a man, hit the boy on purpose. There were a number of witnesses to the incident.
On Oct. 26, 2005 at 8:30 a.m., Jeffrey Javier, 15, was hit by a gray Chevy Corsica, allegedly being driven by Bartolo, at the intersection of 101st Street and Rockaway Boulevard in Ozone Park, adjacent to John Adams High School and a block and a half from the 106th Precinct.
According to police, Bartolo allegedly ran over Javier intentionally after becoming angry at how slowly he was walking across the street.

The victim’s name: Kevin Miller, who was a kindergartener likely looking forward to what Santa was going to leave under the Christmas tree in his Pennsylvania home.
Kevin was leaving a family Christmas party with his parents and two brothers (one of whom was his twin) the night of Dec. 21. Crossing the street, Kevin’s hand was in his father’s, according to his family. He was about to step on the curb — the last of his group to do so — when he was struck by a red car which took off.

Oklahoma City police said the incident began as a domestic fight between a man and a woman near 10th Street and Interstate 35.
Investigators said the man held onto a car door as the woman drove away. His leg was run over when he fell off, police said.
Officers said another vehicle then hit and killed the man.

The urge to escape an awkward situation is understandable, but to do so is deplorable. Responsible motorists leap out to help and deal with the guilt later.

A Logan Square woman dealing with the Christmas Day hit-and-run death of her mother expressed frustration Thursday that a man questioned by police had been released.
“They’re going to go release somebody that passed an alcohol test and killed a little animal and killed a person. It doesn’t seem fair,” Lisette Mendoza said.
Mendoza was driving a Volkswagen Golf in the 2600 block of North Pulaski Road early Tuesday when police say a 2000 Chevy Blazer smashed into her. Her mother, 67-year-old Obdula Villalobos, was in the backseat. Villalobos and her little dog were killed.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – Officials with the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office say one of the seven pedestrians struck by a vehicle in North Charleston has died from his injuries.
According to the coroner’s office, 23-year-old Jorge Luis Martinez died from multiple blunt force trauma.
Martinez was one of seven people struck by a car outside a North Charleston bar on Dec. 15.
Dorchester County deputies and North Charleston police arrested 22-year-old Alvaro Zuniga-Rivas after he was connected to the hit-and-run incident outside Bryndis Discotheque and Bar, located at 3630 Ashley Phosphate Road.

WASHINGTON TWP. (CBS Detroit) – A $1,000 reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers of Michigan for tips about the hit and run crash that killed Sandra Lee Loepp.
The body of Loepp, 37, was spotted by a passing motorist Sunday, Dec. 16, in the parking lot of the Washington Mobile Home Park, near Van Dyke and 28 Mile Road, in Washington Township.
