An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

1738. Jacksonville Beach, Fla. July 23. Pedestrian suffers minor injuries when struck by a black or dark blue Chrysler PT Cruiser which fled the scene.

1739. St. Paul, Minn. July 26. Man killed when struck by a “late-90s purple Neon with body damage on the driver’s side and possibly a loud exhaust system. The driver is only described as a white male with a crew cut.”

1740. Upper Southampton, Pa. July 25. 16-year-old girl hurt when struck by a gold or tan late-model Chevrolet Impala which fled the scene.

1741. Galloway Twp., NJ. July 26. 20-year-old man struck and injured by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

1742. St. Cloud, Minn. July 25. 15-year-old girl suffers “substantial injuries” when struck by a Dodge pickup truck which fled the scene.

1743. Marshalltown, Iowa. July 21. 9-year-old boy suffers fractures to a leg, a hip and a shoulder, after being struck by what’s described as a dark SUV-type vehicle which fled the scene.

A 36-year-old Pompeii woman turned herself into the sheriff’s office Sunday night, saying she had been driving the car in the hit-and-run accident that took the life of 14-year-old Brandon Rummer.

And I quote (II) …

Every day in his wheelchair, Babe, or Vernon Tyrone Thompson, independently went from his apartment complex on Chestnut Plains Court in northeastern Winston-Salem to the AZ Patterson Grocery store about a block away to talk with friends and score a cigarette.

“Everything was good about him,” said Hassan El Manadely, the store manager. “He was friendly to everybody.”

Saturday 9:25 p.m., Thompson died near the corner of 14th Street and Patterson Avenue, hit head-on by a car while heading home on 14th Street in his wheelchair from the grocery store, relatives said. There is no sidewalk on the short stretch of road that Thompson used daily.

ChristopherHumphrey And I quote (III) …

According to sheriff’s deputies, 29-year-old Christopher S. Humphrey is the man responsible for a hit-and-run crash that left Lisa Duvall of Tully and her three children injured on July 18. Police say that morning Duvall had pulled her minivan off of Route 11 in Homer to attend to a child in the back when the van was struck from behind by a 1992 Honda Accord driven by Humphrey. The Duvall family and Humphrey’s passenger, Justin Strine of Marietta, were hospitalized for serious injuries while Humphrey allegedly fled the scene on foot.

And I quote (IV) …

The family of an elderly Cloverdale pedestrian who suffered fatal injuries from a teen-aged hit-and-run driver has filed a claim against the city.

The family of Miguel Cuevas Sanchez, 83, alleges the design and maintenance of the intersection resulted in the driver striking Sanchez, causing his death four days later.

Authorities say that a small, dark-colored SUV struck a cyclist near the intersection of Ritchie Highway and Bon Air Avenue in Brooklyn Park at about 8 a.m. on July 14 and left the scene. The cyclist later died as a result of the injuries. (picture of suspect at top of the post)

soto_john And I quote (VII) …

According to police, officers located Soto driving a U-Haul and attempted a traffic stop. Soto refused and continued to drive down many surrounding streets, causing several more collisions. Soto eventually pulled over near El Campo Road and Highway 101 and was arrested.

And I quote (VIII) …

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Neptune Beach man pleaded no contest to a hit-and-run crash that killed a Navy pilot last year.

And I quote (IX) …

A survivor of a drunk-driving hit-and-run crash is suing the bar where the driver allegedly drank before hitting two people at the scene of a motorcycle crash, killing one. The Pocono Record reports Robert Scotko is suing the restaurant and bar where Benjamin Warner drank prior to the July 2010 crash.

“[The truck] turned around and came back, parked at the little grocery store across the street, came to James, and told him they’ll be back,” Bright explained. “And [then they] got in the truck and went back out again.”
Curry was rushed to Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center. He died Monday. The injuries he suffered in the crash led to his death. Now, his family is grieving.
