Picture 6 An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

1676. Cleveland. July 1. 7-year-old boy struck and killed by a red Chevy Blazer SUV. According to the neighbor, the SUV stopped briefly and then took off.

1677. Council Bluffs, Iowa. June 30. 13-year-old boy injured after being struck by a blue Dodge Ram which fled the scene.

1678. Lexington, Ky. July 1. Woman hospitalized after being struck by a green Winstar mini-van which fled the scene.

1679. Mashpee, Mass. July 1. Drunken woman driver strikes and critically injures 16-year-old and takes off. At the time, the crowds were letting out after the fireworks and community picnic event at nearby Mashpee High School. “The driver came into a congested area, was stopped by a police officer, and the damage of the vehicle was consistent with particles at the scene which was just a few feet down the road,” Chief Collins said.

1680. Wilmington, NC. July 2. Man struck by a light-colored car that fled the scene.

1681. Modesto, Cal. July 1. 5-year-old boy injured when struck by a dark blue Ford Expedition which fled the scene.

1682. Flint, Mich. July 1. A 17-year-old man critically injured when pinned between a trailer and his vehicle after a passing 1998 Pontiac Bonneville struck the trailer and fled. The Bonneville was later recovered but the driver still is at large,

1682. Bourbon County, Ky. July 2. Man struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

1684. San Pedro, Cal. July 3. 34-year-old man died after he was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup — white, with a wide gold or silver stripe running along its body and tinted windows — which fled the scene.

1685-88. Grandville, Ill. July 3. Woman being sought for striking four men with a dark blue metallic Chrysler Sebring with a cloth top after verbal altercation.

1689. New Orleans. July 3. 32-year-old man struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

1690. El Segundo, Cal. July 4. 32-year-old man on bicycle fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

1691. Mobile, Ala. July 3. 50-year-old man fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle. “There was blood everywhere… It is a very cruel thing to do to hit somebody and leave,” said Taylor.

1692. New Orleans. July 4. 3-year-old girl Asia Williams died after a motorcyclist struck her while she was watching fireworks and then fled the scene. NOPD spokeswoman Officer Shereese Harper said the motorcycle is a blue and white Suzuki GSXR 1000.

Family and friends of a Cambridge woman who was seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident two weeks ago in Roxbury demanded justice for the victim Friday night and prayed for her well-being during a candlelight vigil near the scene of the crash.

A woman died on Friday, two weeks after she was struck in a hit-and-run crash on Indianapolis’ west side, and police announced they have made an arrest in the case.

And I quote (IV) …

Myrtle Beach Police have arrested a juvenile girl in connection to an alleged hit and run involving a pedestrian Thursday afternoon. [F]urther investigation showed the victim was allegedly intentionally struck and was ejected into the roadway by a white Pontiac Grand Am, driven by a juvenile girl. She allegedly fled the scene.

Orono, Bangor – A judge is considering whether to allow a damaged truck to be used as evidence in the case of a man accused of a hit and run that killed a University of Maine student last year.

And I quote (VI) …

Police said the victim was with three others when an argument occurred between the four and the motorist. The motorist drove his vehicle toward the four. Three of the four victims dodged the vehicle, the fourth did not. He was struck and dragged and suffered broken bones, Sgt. Mark Jacobi said. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Coroner John P. Corcoran determined during an autopsy that 64-year-old landscaper Aloysius McLaughlin of Swoyersville died of “multiple traumatic injuries” after a woman hit him with her white Chevrolet Trailblazer on Thursday morning on Third Avenue in Kingston.

Mr. McLaughlin was thrown more than 10 feet and taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Twp. where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police arrested Karen McCann, 33, of Kingston, on suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending the result of a blood test.

SALT LAKE CITY — Police are offering a $5,000 reward in hopes of finding the driver of a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian, a single mother of two children, in critical condition and unresponsive.
The vehicle involved is likely a mid-size, four-door Japanese or import, dark or gray in color, that may have sustained damage to its right-front headlight, grille, hood and fender, according to police

And I quote (IX) …

“Eddie’s Law,” recently proposed legislation in the New Jersey Senate, would elevate destruction of evidence, tampering with evidence, or giving false information to the police after fleeing the scene of a fatal car accident to a higher offense.

EAST COBB — In April, Sky View Elementary School teacher Carrie Kane of Marietta was riding her bicycle to work when she was reportedly struck by a motorist, the morning after she was elected to the board of BikeCobb, a cyclists advocacy group.
On Saturday, members of BikeCobb biked together to celebrate the enactment of a new state law intended to prevent such incidents from occurring again. The so-called “3 Feet 2 Pass” law went into effect on July 1, after Gov. Nathan Deal signed the “Better Cycling Bill” into law last May. It was sponsored by state Rep. Doug McKillip (R-Athens).

SALEM – The suspect in a hit-and-run crash that injured seven people in Salem was caught several hours later on a Greyhound bus to Mexico, police said.
