Stafford, Texas victim Marla Jo Burkeen

An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

1891. Stafford, Texas. Sept. 18. 39-year-old mother of five and registered nurse struck and killed by a 2007 or newer Chevy or GMC SUV hit her from behind and took off.

1892. Marquette, Mich. Sept. 23. 23-year-old man on bicycle suffers minor injuries after being struck by an unidentified vehicle.

1893. Yakima, Wash. Sept. 24. 11-year-old boy struck and killed when returning home from the school-bus stop and struck by a pickup truck. “The boy’s father and several other children at the bus stop saw it happen, Liebrecht said. … [T]he man driving the pickup stopped briefly to check for damage to his truck, then got back in and continued” driving.

1894. Chicago. Sept. 25. Woman in her early 50s seriously injured after being struck by a brown or tan Pontiac Bonneville which fled the multicar/pedestrian collision scene.

1895. Chicago. Sept. 24. 43-year-old woman struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene. Additional story.

1896. Glendale, Ariz. Sept. 24. Man in his 40s on a bike seriously injured after being struck by a silver or white compact car with tinted windows which fled the scene.

1897. Brooklyn, NY. Sept. 23. 56-year-old woman struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

1898. Santa Clara, Cal. Sept. 25. 67-year-old man in a wheelchair died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle and carried him at least 300 feet before fleeing the scene.

1899. Denver, Colo. Sept. 25. 26-year-old man struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

1900. Richmond. Cal. Sept. 23. 52-year-old man in a wheelchair fatally struck by a black, two-door, older model Lexus — with tinted windows, a rear spoiler and likely has front-end damage — that fled the scene.

1901. Fort Worth, Texas. Sept. 25. Man was struck and killed by driver who backed up his pickup after hitting the victim, saw the victim in the street and then drove off. Police described the vehicle as a tan Chevrolet pickup.

1902. Harris Co., Texas. Sept. 24. Woman struck and killed by a small black four-door car which fled the scene.

1903. Pierce Twp., Ohio. Sept. 25. Pedestrian injured when struck by a silver 2004-2005 Silver Subaru Impreza WRX with 16-inch gold rims and a spoiler.

A 14-year-old girl was in juvenile detention Saturday, charged with manslaughter in the hit-and-run death of a 14-year-old Bellmead eighth grade student who was found lying near death Thursday night on Williams Road.
The girl was arrested after investigators received an anonymous tip Friday night, police said Saturday. Officers also recovered the vehicle, a white sedan, that was involved in the deadly accident, police said.

Witnesses reported Richards exited the vehicle and began walking west on Steamboat Drive on the sidewalk, when Trujillo allegedly turned her vehicle around.
She then allegedly jumped the curb, striking Richards with her vehicle, then carried his body on the hood until he slid off, according to police.
Sgt. Mike Cullen said the then drove over Richards. He was found unconscious at the scene and witnesses reported Trujillo drove away, south on Fairview Drive.

And I quote (III) …

A judge granted a fatal hit-and-run suspect bail Friday because he was an Eagle Scout. Michael Dalton, 22, drove the Buick that struck a scooter, sending its driver into the windshield of the car, and then drove about a mile before police stopped him, prosecutors said.

A Souderton (Pa.) woman, who avoided a prison sentence for ripping off an elderly Hatfield Township man who employed her and her then-boyfriend as his caretakers, now will have to do jail time for that crime because of a new brush with the law.
Heather L. Hall, 40, of the 100 block of South Front Street, last week was resentenced to four to 23 months in county lockup after admitting her new arrest for an August hit-and-run accident in Skippack constituted a violation of the six-year probation sentence she received in the felony theft case.

And I quote (VI)…

A pedestrian was knocked off the Poplar Street Bridge by a hit and run driver early Sunday morning. The driver also struck a second pedestrian who remained on the roadway.
Illinois State Police say prior to the incident the same car struck a St. Louis Police Department squad car. The St. Louis officer was attempting to stop the fleeing vehicle when the pedestrians were hit.
The car was eventually stopped at Illinois Route 3 at Eighth Street in East St. Louis, where the driver and passenger were taken into custody.

And I quote (VII)…

On Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at approximately 4:00 PM, an unidentified vehicle was backing into a parking spot at the Wawa located at 7600 Frankford Avenue when the vehicle struck a pedestrian (11 year old female) pinning her against another unidentified vehicle in the parking lot. After striking the child, both vehicles fled the location. The female sustained a cut and bruising to her right knee.

The striking vehicle is described as a silver mid-sized 4 door vehicle with a sunroof. The striking vehicle was occupied by a male and a female at the time of the incident (#1 – white male, 18-24 years old, thin build, black shorts, black tank top and a Baltimore Orioles baseball cap; #2 – white female, 18-24 years old, grey shirt, blue jeans with holes in the front, brown hair pulled back).

The second vehicle is described as a white 4 door vehicle with a sunroof and was occupied by a male (white or Hispanic, 18-24 years old, numerous tattoos, white tank top, black shorts).

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the occupants of the involved vehicles are asked to contact the Accident Investigation District at 215-685-3180 / 3189 or dial 911.
