2398. Tewksbury, Mass. March 20. Woman in her 20s injured when struck by a sedan which fled the scene.

2399. Miramar, Fla. March 22. 34-year-old man injured when struck by a light-colored Chrysler 300 which fled the scene.

2400. Clearwater, Fla. March 20. 77-year-old great grandfather critically injured when, while walking his dog, he was struck by an unidentified vehicle.

A criminal defense attorney has pleaded guilty to a hitting a pedestrian with his car, fleeing the scene and coaxing an employee of his firm to take the fall. John Koufos, of Koufos & Norgaard in Long Branch, admitted in Ocean County Superior Court on March 15 to driving the car that seriously injured a shore vacationer.
After the scheme fell apart, prosecutors charged Koufos with aggravated assault, hindering his own apprehension, leaving the scene and witness tampering. The first two charges are second-degree offenses. Prosecutors dropped the aggravated assault and obstruction of justice charges, and recommended sentencing Koufos as a third-degree offender. He now faces likely incarceration and suspension from law practice.

CORPUS CHRISTI – A Nueces County jury has found a man guilty of a hit and run crash that injured three people during an ice storm last year.
Alberto Apache Fuentes hit a 13-year-old Marissa Rodriguez and her cousins as they were on a grassy embankment along the Crosstown Expressway. The victims were watching the aftermath of a seven car pile-up. Police say Fuentes lost control of his car and went off the road. He fled the scene on foot.

HALLANDALE BEACH — A man sought since February after a hit-and-run crash that injured two people outside a Hallandale Beach restaurant was arrested by police in Georgia after he summoned them by accidentally misdialing 911.

Vagiff Safarov, 61, of Hollywood, was given a $150,000 bond by Broward Judge John “Jay” Hurley Thursday after he was charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, an automobile.

“Senior citizens get into accidents all the time in South Florida,” said Steve Rossi, Safarov’s lawyer. “There’s nothing to show he knew these people, or had any reason to harm these people.”

Riverbank City Councilman Jesse James White has pleaded not guilty to charges of drunken driving and causing injury to his 4-year-old son, as well as hit-and-run and resisting a police officer in connection with a crash last month in Oakdale.

EAST PRICE HILL — Cincinnati police have located a car that matches the description of the one that struck and killed a 3-year-old child before speeding off Wednesday night.

ISSAQUAH, Wash. — A pet owner whose two service dogs were killed by a hit-and-run driver is now fighting for changes that he feels will save other dogs.

The victim has been identified as Peter Mwangi, 22, of San Tan Valley. He is currently in critical condition. As the investigations continues, evidence shows Mwangi may have been the victim of an assault – but the initial report of a hit-and-run has not been ruled out. If anyone has ANY information as to how Mr. Mwangi sustained these injuries, we urge them to call in.

The principal of Gig Harbor High School was put on administrative leave after he was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of drunken driving after being involved in a hit-and-run accident on Fox Island.

And I quote (VIII)…

A 23-year-old Topeka man was arrested for possessing an explosive device when it was discovered by authorities in a wrecked and abandoned vehicle Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Topeka police Lt. Chuck Haggard said Thomas H. Stillings was located after a police investigation, interrogated and then booked into the Shawnee County Jail in connection with possession of an explosive device and traffic-related offenses.

Family, friends and neighbors gather in grief to remember a mother killed by an accused drunk driver.

Niesha Coleman, 33, was a mother of three young boys.

“They just don’t understand, they just don’t understand what they took from me and my grandsons and my daughters, they don’t understand,” said Coleman’s mother, Chinissia Reed.
