CORPUS CHRISTI – Police are looking into a man’s claims that he was carjacked last night by a gunman wearing all black and a ski mask. The victim told police he was heading home in a rented 2010 Chevy Impala when he noticed a man lying in the middle of the road at 3200 Crestridge.
The victim told officers he stopped to check on the man only to have the suspect pull out a gun and demand his wallet and jewelry. The suspect then left in the Impala.
A short time after getting that report, police say they got a call about a hit and run accident less than 5 miles away.
In that incident, a Toyota Camry was hit almost head on by a Chevrolet Impala. The driver of the Impala, only described as a male, fled the scene on foot. Police found the wallet belonging to the man who reported the carjacking, but did not find any cash or jewelry.

HOUSTON – Talk show host Michael Berry has cut a check to the victim of a widely publicized hit-and-run, Local 2 Investigates reported on Thursday. The $2,000 check came with a letter from Berry’s lawyer, who said that Berry wanted to make it right “if” the victim or prosecutors felt that Berry was responsible for the wreck.
Local 2 Investigates first reported last week that Berry, a former Houston City Councilman, was considered the suspect in a case where a man’s car was hit by a SUV that fled the scene on January 31st outside a gay bar in the Montrose area of Houston.

After Timothy Bakdash of Roseville wrecked his mom’s car by striking three pedestrians, killing one – an act the state says was done in anger and with intent – he explained the damage to his mother by telling her he’d hit a deer, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Before the crash, Bakdash’s mother, Diane Bakdash, had been planning to sell the 2004 Mitsubishi Galant to one of her son’s friends, who bought the car for $1,500.
The judge in Timothy Bakdash’s murder trial ruled Thursday that jurors won’t be told that Diane Bakdash had once been charged in connection with the April hit-and-run that killed a University of Minnesota student and injured two others – and that the charges were later dropped.

Trevor Bradshaw told witnesses he was drunk and afraid when he fled the scene of a December car accident on Demonbreun Street that left two pedestrians dead.
Bradshaw, 23, is charged with vehicular homicide following the hit-and-run incident that ultimately killed Michael Brooksher and his best friend Tommy Allen. Bradshaw’s girlfriend, Erin Brown, is also charged with vehicular homicide, even though she was not driving. Police say Brown, 21, broke the law by giving her keys to Bradshaw, even though she knew he had been drinking and was drunk.
