HAVERTOWN — Mark McNeill probably has about a million memories of his son. But there’s just one he’s having a hard time living with.

McNeill’s son, also Mark, and good friend Michael Taylor, were killed in a hit-and-run crash Dec. 9, 2011, at Chester Pike and Glenolden Avenue. The 15-year-olds were properly crossing the road when they were struck by a vehicle allegedly driven by Maurquis Javon Thompson, 19, of Chester, who according to police reports drove through a red light, striking the teenagers in the crosswalk area.

But the elder McNeill says he will always be struck by seeing his badly injured son in the hospital that Friday night. Taylor was pronounced dead at the accident scene at 9:40 p.m. The younger McNeill died the next day.

“My biggest thing was how tragic of a death it was,” McNeill said at a Saturday-afternoon fundraiser at WC Murphy’s Pub to help pay for his son’s funeral. “When I walked in and saw him in that hospital bed, I felt like someone had taken an ax and chopped my knees off.”
