An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

2217. San Antonio, Texas. Jan. 8. 24-year-old man who was trying to become a police officer struck and killed by a dark-colored SUV which fled.

2218. Bensalem, Pa. Jan. 9. 22-year-old man struck by a Toyota Corolla, which remained at the scene, and then a dark-colored SUV which fled. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Vandegrift or Officer Tropiano at 215.633.3719.

2219. Carlsbad, NM. Jan. 10. 16-year-old suffers minor injuries when he was struck by a dark blue or black Tahoe or Suburban-type vehicle which fled.

2220. Lynn, Mass. Jan. 11. 68-year-old woman injured when struck by a smaller, dark-colored SUV, perhaps the size of a Honda CRV, which fled the scene.

2221. Millcreek, Utah. Jan. 12. 31-year-old woman injured when a car struck a 12-inch utility pipe in a construction zone with the pipe flying about 20 feet before hitting the victim’s legs; the small white or silver SUV drove south away from the scene.

2222. Buffalo, NY. Jan. 12. Man in his 30s critically injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

2223. Clark, NJ. Jan. 12. 41-year-old female struck by a white Ford F-150 which fled the scene.

And I quote (I)…

A Chicago man admitted to Merrillville officers he was the driver in the New Year’s Day hit-and-run that critically injured a 27-year-old Highland pedestrian, police said.

And I quote (II)…

The driver of a black Nissan Pathfinder had lost control of the SUV while traveling west on Farnham Road, near Huntleigh Court, about a block east of Naperville Road, according to Wheaton police. The driver hit a tree, then struck the Lorenzo home about 4:45 p.m. after being involved in two earlier hit-and-run accidents, police say.

The driver was ejected from SUV, while the passenger was trapped inside but soon was rescued by Wheaton firefighters and paramedics.

The Daytona Beach Police Department is looking for the public’s help to solve four fatal hit-and-run crashes in the city dating back to 2006. A reward of $1,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest in any of the crashes.

And I quote (IV)…

An empty car was found in the lake at the Twin Spans on Wednesday morning, according to the New Orleans Police Department. Police discovered the car had been involved in a hit-and-run accident with an 18-wheeler late Tuesday night. The driver, who was shaken up and suffered minor injuries, swam out of the water, according to the NOPD.
Police are looking for an 18-wheeler with the name “Raynor” on the side that reportedly hit the SUV.

And I quote (V)…

The wife of an ex-Vikings star now faces a second felony charge for a hit-and-run that killed a man. Last fall, prosecutors charged Amy Senser with one count of criminal vehicular operation in the death of Anousone Phathavong.
On Monday, a second count was added because prosecutors say Senser did not contact police quickly enough. She admitted hitting Phathavong a week after the crash.

And I quote (VI)…

The friends and family of John McManus, the Collingdale man struck and seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver early New Year’s Day, are hosting a Beef and Beer benefit.

McManus had volunteered to be the designated driver for his wife and friends on New Year’s Eve. As he was helping a friend out of his van, he was struck by a car, the driver of which did not stop. The force of the impact threw McManus some 10 feet into the air. He was unconscious and bleeding when his friends rushed to his side.

A Maryland woman failed sobriety field tests after a hit-and-run, say Frederick police, and they later discovered she had left her child alone at home.

And I quote (VIII)…

The Chicago Police veteran grew quiet and hung his head low. A few seconds later, Richard Bolling pulled his face back up and slowly wiped his eyes with a white tissue. “I lost it,” Bolling testified Friday, describing how he felt when he learned the boy he rammed into with his Dodge Charger had died.

And I quote (IX)…

Delaware State Police on Friday released new information on the vehicle they say struck and killed a 58-year-old woman in a wheelchair last week just south of Wilmington.

The accident happened about 6:35 p.m. Jan. 3 in the 1000 block of S. Market St., at the entrance to the Fairview Inn. Edith A. McFarland was struck and killed as she attempted to cross the road to the inn, where she lived.

Police initially had identified the first vehicle to strike her as a gold SUV or truck. But investigators now think it was a gold late-1990s Oldsmobile Regency or Royale. The vehicle should have damage to the front end and grille, Sgt. Paul Shavack said.

And I quote (X) …

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The man who pleaded guilty in the hit-and run crash that killed Kelsey Sluder was sentenced this afternoon will spend at least three years in prison. Adam Allred, 21, was convicted of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death after the February 2011 crash that killed Kelsey Sluder.

And I quote (XI)…

A driver convicted of running over and killing a man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Friday afternoon. Darrel Brown received the maximum sentence in the death of 22-year-old Fernando Vargas out side the Golden Nugget bar in 2010.
