ROCKFORD (WIFR) — It’s been nearly a decade since 14-year-old Kory Kallenbach, a freshman at Guilford High School, was hit by a car and left to die near the entrance to Rock Cut State Park.

Fast-forward to 2012 and new developments have finally arisen.

Kory is now 24 years old and he’s suffered through 38 surgeries, but what hurts more than the physical pain is the thought that whoever hit him ten years ago is still out there.

According to FBI reports from the accident, police found two paint chips and five small plastic car parts. That was enough evidence to prove Kory was hit by a white Dodge Ram truck made at a Chrysler plant in Fenton, Missouri between 1998 and 2001. That hasn’t been enough to track down a suspect and Kory’s mom says she doesn’t understand why not.

Mindy Dal Santo, the victim’s mother, said “when my son asks me a question like ‘Mom why aren’t the police looking into this, why is my case closed, what about this?’, it’s very hard to answer those questions to him.”

Joshua Valdez, the young man who was found lying unconscious near a Morgan Hill intersection with numerous broken bones, remains in a coma following what police think is the result of a hit-and-run accident.

Valdez, 22, who is known to his many friends as “Joshie,” was transported to San Jose Regional Medical Center late Friday night, when police found him on the ground near Butterfield Boulevard and San Pedro Avenue.

Police determined that Valdez was walking home by himself shortly before he was injured, and they think his many injuries were caused by a moving car whose driver apparently did not stop to help at the accident scene.

Mark Kerwood allegedly told police he had been drinking all day on New Year’s Eve in South Jersey when a 7-year-old child in Falls was hit by a work van matching one he drove.

But cellphone records show that Kerwood was far closer to his Falls home than he claimed at the time of the hit and run, according to a probable cause affidavit.

On Tuesday, police charged Kerwood, 38, of Nearwood Lane with the Dec. 31 hit-and-run accident. He faces a maximum of 14 years in jail, if convicted of the two most serious charges related to accidents involving death or personal injury.
