Saturday hit-and-run in Philly's Frankford neighborhood
An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.
2604. Philadelphia. June 2. 8-year-old boy injured when struck by a white Crown Victoria which fled the scene.
2605-7. Corpus Christi, Texas. June 2. Pregnant shoplifter hits three Wal-Mart employees while fleeing parking lot in a white Dodge Caliber.
2608. Ahuimanu, Hawaii. June 2. Air Force reservist/father of two struck and killed by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.
2609. Elizabeth, NJ. June 2. 26-year-old man injured when struck by a tan SUV which fled the scene.
2610. Pomona, Cal. June 3. 44-year-old man suffers grave head injuries when struck by a “1990s, small, red sedan, possibly a Toyota Corolla” which fled the scene.
2611. Titusville, Fla. June 3. 38-year-old woman critically injured when struck by a silver or gray car, similar to a Chevrolet Malibu, which fled the scene.

And I quote (I)…
Just after midnight, Astoria Police and Astoria Fire and Rescue responded to the area for a crash involving what was thought to be a pedestrian. When officers responded, they found Carpenter in the street, being given first aid by a nurse who had witnessed the crash. Carpenter died at the scene. Officers located the vehicle involved in the crash abandoned a block from the scene in a parking lot.

“My wife heard it, and then she called me and she told me quick get a flashlight because the cars are just going by, nobody is slowing down and we had people out in the road do I went out there with the flashlight and started slowing them down,” said Grinavick. “Then the cruisers came and they took over from there.”
Police aren’t releasing the identity of the driver, but say he turned himself in Saturday morning.
“He said that he thought that he hit something last night,” said Chief Brooks. “We have examined the car along with the state police collision analysis unit. It has extensive damage to the windshield and the right front. As a result, we’re going to be charging the owner of that car with leaving the scene after causing serious personal injury and with negligent operation.”

Police say the suspect 24-year-old Kevin Shelton sped through the area, hit the kids, and drove off. He reportedly crashed a couple of blocks away.
Shelton is in custody, charged with two counts of negligent homicide. He allegedly told officers he had been smoking a drug called “sherm.”

“I was on someone’s windshield and that doesn’t end too well, and I’m glad that I went up and my bike went down because if I would’ve ended up under that car, I wouldn’t be here right now,” Epstein said.

ROCKFORD (WIFR) — It’s been two years since 21-year old Matthew Clarke was struck and killed during a hit and run accident on Sandy Hollow Road. His mother Michelle Rubert says not a day goes by that she doesn’t think of her son and the search for his killer.
“The biggest part for me is to just think about my son laying out here on Sandy Hollow Road and for people not to care”, says Rubert.
