An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

3200. Tucson, Ariz. Nov. 30. 31-year-old man killed when struck by an unknown vehicle which fled the scene.

3201. Gardena, Cal. Nov. 29. 19-year-old man fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

3202. Port Allen, La. Dec. 1. 48-year-old woman fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

3203. Hialeah, Fla. Nov. 30. 48-year-old woman critically injured when struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

3204. Tampa, Fla. Dec. 1. 22-year-old man struck and killed by a dark-colored compact car which fled the scene.

3205. Glen Burnie, Md. Dec. 1. 71-year-old man fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

3206. Granite City, Ill. Dec. 1. 50-year-old woman fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle which fled the scene.

And I quote (I)…

A Bristol Township man, who struck a pedestrian on New Falls Road in Middletown with his car and fled the scene, pleaded guilty Thursday in Bucks County Court in Doylestown.

Jonathan Simmons, 27, of Atkins Avenue will be sentenced early next year and will serve at least one year behind bars, the mandatory minimum sentence for hit-and-run. He apologized to John Rearick’s family members, who wept and grumbled angrily in the courtroom during the brief hearing.

“I’m truly sorry for your loss. I should have stayed. I panicked. I have to live with this every day,” Simmons said.

A man charged in a hit-and-run accident that involved an infant Thursday in Hainesport was also wanted in Lumberton for running from a routine police traffic stop, authorities said Friday.

William Stride, 36, of Maple Shade, is now facing two counts of eluding police as well as a single count of endangering the welfare of a child.

And I quote (III)…

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – Boone County investigators have discovered some of the vehicles in the area of a fatal hit-and-run, and now they hope the public can help them find those responsible for the death.

Anita Wernsing, 78, was walking home from church on Ind. 267 Sunday night when a driver struck her and kept going . She died from her injuries.

And I quote (IV)…

WEST PALM BEACH — Jermaine Nixon slipped out of the courtroom quickly, the echoes of his mother’s wailing over the 14-year prison sentence he received Friday still lingering in the hallway.

A jury two months ago convicted Nixon, now 18, of the 2010 hit-and-run crash in Riviera Beach that killed pedestrian Kathryn Veroxie. Veroxie, 21, died March 19, 2010, after Nixon, then 15, plowed into her with a stolen car while he was speeding away from police. Both Nixon and Veroxie were from Riviera Beach.

Nixon’s mother, Cherron Randolph, on Friday pleaded to Judge Barry Cohen for leniency, apologizing to Veroxie’s family before she told the judge that her son was just a kid. Veroxie’s aunt, Marianne Zebedee, listened quietly, nodding as Randolph asked her to accept her apology on behalf of Nixon, who chose not to speak before Cohen sentence him.

Robert Allen Edmonds, 41, of Des Moines, said he panicked and fled after hitting Kendra Cantelope on Nov. 18. Overwhelmed with guilt, Edmonds tried to kill himself later that night, according to an affidavit his lawyer released Thursday.

A 37-year-old woman accused of deliberately running down two Seattle high-school students with her car was ordered held Friday in lieu of $250,000 bail.

Amy Lynn O’Brien, of Seattle, appeared before a judge at the King County Jail. The deadline for filing charges is Tuesday, according to Dan Donohoe, spokesman for King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg.

She was arrested on Thursday after she surrendered at the police department’s South Precinct. She told police that she struck two female teens outside Chief Sealth International High School on Wednesday because they had “surrounded” her, according to a police report released Friday by King County prosecutors.

A witness told investigators that O’Brien had been involved in a physical fight with one of the victims shortly before the 10:15 a.m. hit-and-run.
