MEDIA COURTHOUSE — Sheriffs led former Delaware County Assistant District Attorney Michael Donohue from Courtroom No. 5 in handcuffs Monday evening after a jury found him guilty of fleeing the scene of an accident involving personal injury.
The charges stem from a Nov. 14, 2011, incident when Donohue, 32, struck a 14-year-old Havertown boy on Township Line Road near Bryan Street in Upper Darby. Donohue had been at Sligo, a pub in Media, for several hours before the crash, and the prosecution had tried to prove he was drunk at the time he struck victim Jake Vantrieste of Haverford and fled the scene.
Visiting Senior Judge John L. Braxton of Philadelphia, who presided over the case, had acquitted Donohue of more serious aggravated assault and driving under the influence charges Friday after Senior Deputy Attorney General Joseph McGettigan rested the Commonwealth’s case.
The jury of seven men and five women deliberated for about four and a half hours Monday afternoon following closing arguments. McGettigan concluded his summation with a charge to the jury to hold Donohue accountable for his actions.

It is a travesty, how Pennsylvania’s laws all but encourage a driver to take off and sober up before turning themselves in. And, one that I’m committed — with the help of state Sen. Larry Farnese and other logic-driven elected officials — to changing.
It is pathetic that someone who’d been drinking, and was on a phone in the car, and left a kid to die — which he luckily didn’t — in the street will be a free man in the not-so-distant future. These are the types of details that make me want to wish something offensive happens to the hit-and-run dirtbag while detained.
Perhaps there will be Sons of Anarchy style karmic delivery. Perhaps someone prosecuted by the disgraced, and disgraceful, former assistant district attorney will see an opening to deliver justice on his/her terms while a guard looks the other way. I don’t know. I just hope Michael Donohue realizes what he did was heinously wrong or, if he doesn’t, suffers unspeakable pain.

Eduardo Garcia was arrested about 2 a.m. at his Canoga Park home, about six hours after allegedly striking Herlinda Carrillo on Van Nuys Boulevard near El Dorado Avenue, Los Angeles police Officer James Norton of the Valley Traffic Division said.

[Rebecca] Harris, known to her family and friends as Becca, slipped into a coma after the accident and never recovered. She died on July 11. The State Attorney’s Office upgraded Becerra’s charges last week to hit-and-run with death after a state prosecutor reviewed the case. She could face as much as 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted. She has pleaded not guilty.

Eight months have gone by and the relatives of Omar Monroig, a Butler man who died eight days after being struck in a hit-and-run, said they are no closer to finding the driver who caused the crash than they were in March.
The family has increased the reward offered for any information that leads to an arrest of the driver to $20,000, according to Monroig’s wife, Marybell Monroig.
“Our son, Nicolas, and the family are trying to bring awareness to this case,” she said. “No one has come forward with any further information in regards to this accident. My hope is this will create more leads.”
Hit-and-run dirtbag Leandro Anaya
In court, Anaya repeatedly interrupted Dyke’s testimony, prompting District Judge Mary Marlowe-Sommer to order him to “stop that.” This was “not his time to speak,” she said.
Dyke said the “irresponsible, preventable, careless act” of killing her brother could have been avoided.
Then Marlowe-Sommer ripped into Anaya. “I don’t feel like you’re contrite today,” she said. “No matter what you say today, I now know that you are not sorry.”
Marlowe-Sommer ordered Anaya to turn and address Dyke and her sister, Karen Finley, and apologize to the best of his ability.
“I didn’t just leave him there,” Anaya told them. “I saw another car there, and I thought they were calling police. I left because I was afraid, but I’m not the one who hit him first. I’m sorry for your loss.”
Dyke told him she didn’t believe him.

I rode my horse around and i was actually standing in front of the car. Then he realized that the female who had the keys wasn’t going to drive off, he got out and told him to give her his keys. I was telling him “No! Don’t get in the car!” he went ahead and got in the car and started it up and was still right in front of the car and he put it in drive and floored it. I was able to get away just in time and my horse was able to get away just in time to keep him from running over us.” said Hendersonville, Tennessee Police Officer Jeff Duren.
