2466-67. Newark, NJ. April 18. 30-year-old and 19-year-old injured when struck by a red sedan, the driver of which got out, stabbed one of them and fled.
2468. Costa Mesa, Cal. April 17. Teenage bicyclist suffered minor injuries when struck by a gray, four-door sedan which fled the scene.

Earlier this month we asked our commenters to assist the Waynesboro, VA Police Department in catching the driver in a fatal hit-and-run accident by identifying a part that came off the suspect’s car. Within minutes, our amazing commenters identified it as coming from the grille of an early 2000-era Ford F-150 pickup, which was exactly the vehicle police found when they followed a tip yesterday to nearby Rockingham County.

Two suspects are now in custody related to the fatal crash. Police now tell us that Jalopnik commenters help was “critical” to solving the case. Great work team!
Betty Marcelle Wheeler was walking along Rosser Avenue in Waynesboro on April 7th when she was struck by a vehicle and killed. The driver fled, but police found a part of the vehicle they believe struck Wheeler and posted it to the web with the hopes of identifying it.
Shortly after posting the image our readers identified it as part of a Ford F-150 grille, probably from a 2000 year model. We reached out to the local police department, who then used that information to build their case.
Now, less than two weeks later, there are two suspects in custody and the WPD. said they’re grateful to the information that led them to the men involved.
“Without the identification of the vehicle — we obviously may have still gotten the anonymous tip — but I think it all pointed in the right direction so that was critical to the case,” Captain Kelly Walker told Jalopnik.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A Rutgers University student and her father both are facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run accident in the parking lot of South Brunswick High School on Friday that sent a 14-year-old student to the hospital.
As a result of the investigation, it was determined that Shivangi Patel, 19, of South Brunswick, who is a student at Rutgers, was operating the vehicle in excess of the posted speed limit. She was issued a summons for speeding.
Additionally, Rajesh Patel, 51, Shivangi’s father, was charged with fourth-degree hindering the apprehension by attempting to conceal the vehicle and the driver from police. He also was issued a summons for failure to report an accident and concealing evidence.

Bond was set at $1million for a man charged with DUI manslaughter in a crash that killed a 13-year-old girl. Sandor Guillen, 38, appeared in bond court Wednesday morning, where a judge increased his bond to $1,000,035.
Miami-Dade police said Guillen was under the influence of alcohol Friday morning when he drove his SUV on the Busway and crashed into a minivan at U.S. 1 and Southwest 184th Street. According to the arrest report, Guillen was driving 100 mph in a 40 mph zone on the Busway, which is supposed to be reserved for transit vehicles only.

A 26-year-old man has been charged in a hit-and-run death from the summer of 2010 after his DNA was linked to the car involved in the crash, St. Petersburg police said. Byron Famar Starling, 26, of 2827 Freemont Terrace, St. Petersburg, was arrested Friday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

The ugly reality is that there are people who actually choose to leave their victims in the street, often with huge hospital bills. A Camp Lejune Marine has been charged in the hit-and-run death of a Georgia woman.
Lance Cpl. Justin Tyler Graham, 19, of 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, was charged by the Oakwood, Ga., Police Department with first-degree vehicular homicide and failure to stop and render aid to a person injured in a vehicle collision. His bond was set at $25,000.
Police there said Graham was driving his Dodge Dakota pickup truck Saturday afternoon when it struck and killed 20-year-old Kimberly Renee Yelverton who was crossing a street near a convenience store. She died upon impact.

BUFFALO, NY – Six jurors have been selected in the case against a WNY doctor charged in a fatal hit and run accident.
Jury selection began Thursday in the case against Dr. James Corasanti. The physician is accused of hitting a teenager with his car and then leaving the scene of the accident.
Jury selection will continue Friday for the remaining jurors. 12-jurors and four alternates are needed before opening statements are heard in the high profile case.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Police Bureau Fatal Crash Team investigators and officials with the Oregon State Police Crime Lab have narrowed down the possible vehicle that was being driven when a 63-year-old woman was hit and killed.
Nancy Schoeffler was killed at approximately 11:20 p.m. March 31 in Northwest Portland when a car had hit her while she was out on a walk. The driver of the car didn’t stop and police have been searching for the car and driver ever since.
On Thursday, police said the vehicle they’re looking for is a 1996-2008 black Honda or Acura sedan with damage to the hood and front windshield.

The body of Allison Owens, a 23-year-old tour guide from Columbus, Ohio, was found in a canal days after she was hit Oct. 2 near San Giovanni Valdarno, between Florence and Arezzo.
Pietro Stefanoni, 53, was convicted Wednesday of manslaughter and leaving the scene of the crime, and given the 38-month sentence by the Arezzo court, said attorney Valentino Durante, who is representing Owens’ family.
