RIP, Officer Fox
An ongoing collection of unsolved hit-and-run cases, with a focus on car/pedestrian incidents, from across the country since Jan. ‘010. If you know something about any of these incidents, or one that I’ve missed, do the right thing and call the police, even anonymously.

3008. Chicago. Sept. 12. Police officer injured when struck by a vehicle which fled the scene, was later located but the driver was nowhere to be found. (Update: Arrest)

3009. Santa Ana, Cal. Sept. 13. Woman in her 40s struck and killed by a white pickup which fled the scene; later struck by another vehicle while police were processing the scene.

3010. Hell, Mich. Sept. 13. 32-year-old man injured when struck by a yellow Ford F-150 pickup truck with a honeycomb grill which fled the scene.

3011. Rochelle Park, NJ. Sept. 13. Police officer injured when struck by a black 2008 Toyota Avalon which fled the scene.

3012-13. Suffern, NY. Sept. 13. Twin 18-year-old brothers injured when struck by a yellow 2003 Toyota Celica which fled the scene. (Update: Arrest)

3014. Hemet, Cal. Sept. 13. 23-year-old man struck and killed by a silver 2000-2004 Nissan Frontier which fled the scene.

3015. Pittsylvania Co., Va. Sept. 15. Man struck and killed by a champagne 1997 Cadillac Deville four-door hard top with North Carolina tags which fled the scene.

3016. Whitesboro, NY. Sept. 15. 60-year-old man suffers head injuries when struck by a dark blue minivan which fled the scene.

3017. Bronx, NY. Sept. 15. 24-year-old man critically injured when struck by a silver Passat which fled the scene and was abandoned nearby with no sign of the driver.

3018-19. Dallas, Texas. Sept. 13. Two women injured struck by a vehicle which fled the scene; crime caught on passing cop car’s dash camera.

3020. Newport Beach, Cal. Sept. 15. 57-year-old woman on a bicycle fatall struck by “possibly” a 2001 to 2004 Toyota Tacoma which fled the scene.

3021. Loris, SC. Sept. 15. 25-year-old man struck and killed by an SUV or truck which fled the scene.

3022. Dana Point, Cal. Sept. 14. 20-year-old man fatally struck by a black Nissan Maxima which fled the scene.

3023. Waltham, Mass. Sept. 16. 18-year-old man injured when struck by a black Mustang which fled the scene.

3024-25. Seattle. Sept. 16. Two pedestrians injured when struck by a truck which fled the scene.

3026. Columbia, SC. Sept. 16. Woman injured when struck by a white compact car which fled the scene.

3027. Akron, Ohio. Sept. 9. 23-year-old nurse and mother of two injured when struck by a dark, 4-door mid-sized car with dark tinted windows which fled the scene.

Sandy Springs (Ga.) police released video Thursday of an SUV they believe struck and killed a woman Tuesday night.
Surveillance cameras on Roswell Road and Hightower Trail showed the dark-colored truck, described as a Chevy Tahoe, turning off of Roswell Road about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.

And I quote (II)…

HARLINGEN — A 6-month-old baby who police said was injured Sunday in a hit-and-run crash died at the hospital Wednesday night, a hospital spokesman said.

And I quote (III)…

the teenager was texting while driving during the incident. Benny Tompkins said he was crossing the street with his 4-year-old granddaughter when he was struck.

“The car hit me at my knees. I rolled up on the windshield and over the car,” Tompkins said.

According to Tompkins, he saw the driver, Becky Kirkland, looking down moments before she hit him.

And I quote (IV)…

PALM DESERT — Hours after 16-year-old Grant Virgin was struck by a car and left critically injured on a Palm Desert road, his parents and younger brother sat across from the boy’s surgeons.

The doctors detailed the devastating injuries caused by the driver who crashed into Grant on Monday, crushing his aorta and fracturing his skull and both femurs.

Only 10 percent of people with his kind of aorta damage survive the initial injury. Even fewer live past the ride to the hospital. Fewer yet survive the transfer to another hospital.

Chances were slim to none that Grant would survive the airlift to the Los Angeles hospital he needed.

“The driver of the vehicle involved in the death of my grandson left Jackson in the street to die,” Walden’s grandmother Dixie Lester said in a news release. “I can’t bring Jackson back, but I won’t rest until this murderer is found.”

SNOW HILL — A Virginia man who struck and killed a pedestrian on Coastal Highway on Memorial Day while driving drunk pleaded guilty last week in Worcester County Circuit Court to negligent homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence.


And I quote (VII)…

An 83-year-old woman from Woodstock has been charged in the hit-and-run death of a 6-year-old boy last week after authorities investigated a tip from an auto body shop, police said today.

Veramae C. Phillip was released on $50,000 bail after she turned herself in about 2 p.m. Thursday to face felony charges of failure to report a fatal traffic crash and leaving the scene of a fatal traffic crash, according to the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

Brayan Silva, of Leland, was struck while walking with his family in the 4600 block of Franklinville Road just southwest of Woodstock a little after 9 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. He was taken to Centegra Hospital Woodstock, where he was pronounced dead.

A year after her 23-year-old son was hit and killed by an unidentified driver in Lafourche Parish, Tammie Rivere released a handful of balloons at his grave, wishing she didn’t have to.

“I still wonder why, why are we here releasing balloons?” she said. “To honor our son, yes, but why are we doing this? Why did someone have to hit him in the first place?”

A 22-year-old Flagstaff woman accused of manslaughter in a hit-and-run collision with an NAU student told police she was only drinking to kill the pain from her recently pierced tongue.

Kelsey Lou Cody told police she had been playing softball earlier in the night and was on her way home from the downtown bars when something “jumped out of nowhere.”

According to initial reports from the incident, the suspect was driving with nearly three times the legal amount of alcohol in her system.
