Tea Party Group Deplores Tactics of Occupy Wall Street; Challenges Occupy Philadelphia to Consider Rights of Others
Philadelphia, PA (October 5, 2011) — The Independence Hall Tea Party Association, a group dedicated to free enterprise and respect for the U.S. Constitution, announced today that while it supports the free speech rights of all, including Occupy Wall Street and Occupy Philadelphia, it roundly deplores illegal behavior, including sit-ins that block the free movement of people and cargo.
“Was it really necessary for Occupy Wall Street to takeover the Brooklyn Bridge–and interfere with the rights of others to travel freely–in order to get their point of view across to the general public?” asked Association President Teri Adams. “The Tea Party rejects such behavior and challenges Occupy Philadelphia to consider the rights of others when it protests tomorrow.”
“The idea that Wall Street is the root of all evil is also an anathema to us. Like any other institution, Wall Street has its corrupt figures–and such individuals should be dealt with accordingly,” said Ms. Adams. “But to condemn Wall Street, en masse, is akin to condemning our entire free enterprise system.
“Our Association deplores corporate bailouts (GM), corporate subsidies (Solyndra), and corporate welfare. At the same time, however, we recognize the contributions and achievements of America’s chambers of commerce.
“If Occupy Philadelphia wishes to reform a corrupt corporation let it start with the world’s largest, the United States government, which routinely wastes billions of taxpayers dollars and seeks to interject itself into every aspect of our lives–threatening our very freedoms,” she said.
“Currently, the federal government, led by the Obama Administration, is stifling the American economy with its reckless deficit spending and zealous over-regulation of the private sector economy.
“The result has been a disastrous three-year-plus recession (which many are now calling a depression) that has devastated American families with its high unemployment rate and its built-in cost of living increases.”

It was your president and your republican party for 6 straight long years, that spent and spent and spent until the peoples money went dry. DO NOT even attempt to blame this on Obama. I noticed how you managed to mention GM and Solyndra, while leaving out the TARP money under BUSH, not Obama that was passed under the Bush regime by republicans as well as democrats, the two wars Bush started that weren’t financed, the prescription drug plan unpaid for, the 10 yr tax cuts, unpaid for. What do you have to say about that spending? Nothing!!! So save your whining for someone who really gives a sh$$ what you have to say…..you’re part of the problem. A major part!

The ENTIRE point of a protest is to interfere in the normal business as usual! It is also protected by the Constitution of the United States of America and the NYPD officers who assaulted peaceful protesters who were not posing any sort of threat with pepper spray and worse better find damn good attorney’s!
Your response is deplorable. The police set up barricades and forced the protesters to stop instead of continuing over the bridge. Then the police arrested them for “loitering”. These are thug tactics by the police and should be condemned. The cops set them up to be arrested. The protesters are peaceful and non violent. I don’t see you condemning police actions of pepper spraying defenseless people who were do nothing wrong or throwing people to the ground and dragging them. The cops are acting like Nazis.
It appears the Tea Party has forgotten what caused the 2008 crash in the first place–Bush tax cuts, wars on borrowed money (deficit) and lack of regulation on Wall Street/Big Banks/Corporations. Occupy Wall Street is right on target. Perhaps they should join them instead of opposing them!
So there take on it is “we agree with the citizens’ right to assemble, so long as it doesn’t bother us.”
Sorry if not everyone has a host of billionaires willing to orchestrate massive “revolutionary” demonstrations against “socialism” in our name.
Thanks for the reminder of why I left Philly. In 2010, the state took its biennial I.Q. exam and flunked. Pat Toomey was only the first disgrace. In the case of Bucks County, voters saw fit to eject one of the most widely respected representatives on both sides of the aisle with an utter laughing stock, a retread who didn’t even have the presence of mind to show up for his own swearing-in. He was at a Koch brothers cocktail party holding up his hand infront of a elevision pretending to take his oath of office. The Tea Party really coached Bucks well.

Two tax reductions unpaid for, two wars unpaid for, a prescription drug program with PHARMA prices pumped up to astronomical windfall levels. I know that Association President Teri Adams is not an idiotic mental misfit so I guess I have to think the worst. She must be a Neo-Republican, unlike Teddy Roosevelvelt, Bob LaFollette, Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush. They were all honest. They would not knowingly or deliberately lead people away from what they know to be the truth. Those people are dead. So is their party. In its place are the Neo-Republicans, running under the “republican” banner on a platform of distortions that would simply repel their forebears. In a massive case of election fraud, this new group is using the old name to hoodwink voters into voting against their own best interest. Clever trick, folks.
Occupy Philadelphia has your number. They have taken your full measure. You assume that the whole world buys your canard. You brought down the entire U.S. economy this time the same way you did in 1929. You even did it in the same manner, using the same means (fraudulent securities for excessive commissions). I wonder just how big the protests have to get to receive the same kind of coverage, they same stentorian seriousness of commentary as a scant dozen Teafarty fools with guns standing around looking stupid and fat in DC. The Independence Hall Tea Party models itself after the Philadelphia Tea Party of December 27, 1773.
At that Tea Party, held 11 days after the Boston Tea Party, nearly 6000 citizens peacefully gathered behind the Old Pennsylvania State House (now known as Independence Hall) and voted to send a cargo of tea back to England.
The 18th century Philadelphians didn’t destroy property and didn’t violate the law.
As for the above comments–very few were substantive and more than half of them resorted to foul language and name calling.
Yes, Bush made errors during his presidency–but Obama’s mistakes have surpassed Bush’s in both scope and quantity.
A reality check would strongly suggest that we need a new President.
