Baltimore
On November 14, 2007, I was staying in Baltimore at a friend’s house, and his little brother decided to “borrow” (steal) my car while I was asleep. He took the keys from the pocket of my pants, and went out all night driving and likely “hacking”, or picking up riders for a fee. He was/is a drug addict, and being broke, that was one way he could generate money.
Sometime overnight or early the morning of November 15, 2007, he had a couple in the back of the car that he had picked up and he apparently nodded out, losing control of the car and running up the driveway of a house where he came to a stop after he hit a car parked there. Apparently, according to police, he injured people in/near the vehicle he hit, as well as his passengers. He took off running, but was identified by the passengers by a unique nickname he goes by, as well as wearing glasses, and other very unique physical characteristics. This incident apparently occurred near Edison Avenue and Erdman Avenue in Baltimore City, MD.
The next morning, as soon as I realized my keys and vehicle were gone, I called the police, who came out and took a report. They quickly put 2 and 2 together and found out my car was the one involved in the hit and run the night before, which had been reported. Some time ensued trying to locate the car, which I finally found out was impounded, as well as trying to sort out what happened and working with the auto insurance company. I never saw my friend’s little brother again. However, after the police and insurance company tried to pin all this on me, attempting to say that I faked the whole thing, their further investigations showed I didn’t match the witnesses’ descriptions of the driver. I was finally reimbursed the full value of the vehicle after many more months, the car was released to impound, and that was that.
Recently, I came in contact with my Baltimore friend again, and learned about the current activities and exact whereabouts of his little brother who stole my car but never faced justice for the damage he did. In January of this year, I contacted Metro Crime Stoppers in Baltimore with all this information, but they have yet to respond, at all. One factor may be that the perpetrator now lives in Anne Arundel County, outside the jurisdiction of Baltimore City police.
This incident really put me and my family through difficult times, some of the pieces of which took years to correct – in some aspects, I have only gotten back everything that was taken from me then in the last 6 months, like a replacement vehicle. I still don’t have everything back together as it was, and that incident not only messed my life up, but I’m sure others whom I have no idea what damage or injury may have occurred to them, as well. The worst part for me was being blamed by the police for this incident, who demanded at one point for me to “come down to the station and turn myself in”, since they were certain I’d done this. Apparently, similar things happen a lot in Baltimore, with drugs, theft and various crimes that lead to incidents that resemble what happened to me. There’s a lot of serially-dishonest junkies and assorted losers in Baltimore that will do anything for money or to get themselves out of frequent legal jams they find themselves in.
I want this clown to face justice. I know exactly where he lives. It didn’t happen that long ago. Funny thing is, if it happened and the police were able to respond quickly, he’d have been caught and would have faced many charges related to this hit and run. But since it’s not “fresh”, the police seem to have no interest in it.
