First, the good news: Below, you will see a curated list of write-in votes cast in a variety of races in Philly’s November 2023 general election.
Now, the bad news: We do not know exactly how many votes were cast for Gritty and other “fictional” characters. Per the powers that be: “There was a policy determination about a year ago that clearly fictional character write-in votes would not be enumerated. Void received many votes; as Gritty lives within the Void, his votes can be found there.”
Heartbreaking stuff, and I’ll do a deeper dive at some point to examine this further, because that’s when you do when you personally receive one vote for Mayor and an additional vote for Fifth District City Council (thank you for the support, non-haters!)
A quick summary: the Phillies received many votes, as they were fresh in the minds of Philadelphians despite their disappointing defeat at the hands of an inferior team. Also of note: the sons of both Joel Embiid and Nick Castellanos received votes.
