An Atwater police detective who has been on paid administrative leave since crashing her car into a house and tree in 2013 was convicted Monday of drunken driving and leaving the scene of the off-duty collision.
A jury found Lisa M. Howard guilty following a three-day trial before Judge Paul C. Lo in Merced Superior Court.
Howard, 34, was ordered to serve 10 days on a work-release program with the Merced County jail. She also was ordered to pay a fine of more than $2,000, attend a DUI treatment class, serve 40 hours of community service and three years of probation.

#Jhonatan Romero-Alvarez, 23, of Lawrenceville called 911 at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the Monday crash that killed 22-year-old Dante Wilson outside Duluth, said Cpl. Michele Pihera, spokeswoman for the department. He was soon taken into custody at a home on Sentinel Circle near Lawrenceville, charged with vehicular homicide and hit-and-run.
#His 2008 Honda Civic, which witnesses said clipped Wilson with its side mirror, was impounded for processing.

Rachel Brown, 37, turned herself in to police more than 12 hours after the May 16 crash. She cooperated with the investigation.
Brown pleaded guilty to a felony and was promised a 1- to 3-year sentence. The maximum penalty she could have faced under law was 1 1/3 to 4 years, said prosecutor Chris Bednarski.
Brown, who has two previous drunken driving arrests, was not charged with being drunk when she struck Anthony Burkard, 18, on Route 57 north of Liverpool.
